About the role
The Travel Underwriting Analyst role is an administrative position responsible for maintaining underwriting culture discipline and ensuring the efficiency/effectiveness of underwriting processes and protocols. This role currently reports to the Regional Underwriting Manager, U.S. and Canada.
This role will be based in our Toronto, Ontario office.
What you need to know:
- Communicating with Sales and other requestors as necessary by providing account information, proposals, and loss information, and requesting additional underwriting information as needed before and during the review process
- Evaluating new and renewal businesses (small to medium-sized accounts and products) by gathering relevant data and putting together financial models
- Considering any special or unique circumstances in reviews, while following guidelines in the Underwriting Manual
- The Underwriting Analyst is integral in maintaining company profitability by:
- Evaluating new and renewal businesses (small to medium-sized accounts and products) by gathering relevant data and putting together financial models
- Recommending financial terms by reviewing and analyzing account information
- Considering any special or unique circumstances in reviews, while following guidelines in the Underwriting Manual
- Communicating with Sales and other requestors as necessary by providing account information, proposals, and loss information, and requesting additional underwriting information as needed before and during the review process
- Preparing final proposals and recommendations for Underwriting actions and onboarding new accounts
- Approving deals within underwriting authority or submitting final recommendations for approval if outside of individual authority levels
- Recommending financial terms by reviewing and analyzing account information

- Entering and maintaining agency and compensation information into company systems
- The Underwriting Analyst is responsible for maintaining good documentation, keeping files organized and available for review, and ensuring that all processes are followed, and all tasks are handled according to the schedule
- Documenting account information by entering updates into company systems and databases
- Updating appropriate logs
- Entering and maintaining agency and compensation information into company systems
- Researching and correcting compensation and/or policy entry problems
- Setting and completing product/agency spot checks
- Fielding requests from internal departments on questions regarding accounts, products, and compensations
- Performing contract reviews and setting follow up reminders to make sure we comply with all contract terms
- Maintaining procedures documented in Underwriting Manuals

- Ability to work independently to meet deadlines, as well as part of a team to accomplish goals
- Ability to manage workload effectively, especially during times of high activity and tight timelines
- A good communicator able to build and maintain both internal and external relationships
- A decision maker comfortable in making decisions based on analytics
- Demonstrated proficiency in analytics using Microsoft Excel formulas and functions
- A forward thinker who isn't afraid to float new ideas and support others’ new ideas to move the business forward
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills
