Job Summary
At the CSPA, our strength is the effectiveness with which we advocate for Canada’s steel producers to foster a strong and sustainable future for this strategically important sector. To support us in this mission we are seeking interested candidates for a full-timeManager, Policy position.
The Manager, Policy will support the steel industry’s efforts on the growing list of policies and programs that affect the industry, with a particular focus on trade and climate priorities.This position will monitor, track, research and report on key policies that are being proposed federally, provincially, and internationally.
Under the supervision of a CSPA Director, the Manager will work closely with all CSPA staff to support the association’s efforts to create common industry positions on key issues and to identify the major barriers and opportunities on the sector of various proposals from government through in-depth reviews and detailed analysis of steel industry impacts.
The position will also support, as required, the execution of activities of the CSPA Committees and the various coalitions that the CSPA has joined on specific policy topics.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the position are to:
- Execute policy monitoring in key jurisdictions to identify trends and new approaches that may create an opportunity or threat to the Canadian steel industry.
- Support CSPA with specific tasks required by the CSPA membership.
- Participate actively in weekly CSPA team meetings regularly and contribute to efforts with members and external consultants as required.
- Support the development of industry positions on a range of public policy issues, primarily in the areas of international trade, climate change and industrial policy.
- Conduct research and analysis on policy and program proposals to determine possible implications on the Canadian steel industry.
- Perform other related duties needed by the association as required and directed.
- Develop materials, presentations, position papers etc. to support CSPA participation in meetings with government and other key stakeholders, as appropriate.
- Support the development of formal submissions and presentations to government on key policies issues through informal and formal government consultative processes.
Qualifications
The ideal qualifications for this position include:
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a member-based association, a not-for-profit organization or other comparable organization.
- Appreciation for a small team environment, where workload management requires flexibility and open communication across the team.
- Demonstrated pro-active mindset to take initiative in developing and prioritizing issues and methods to accomplish tasks or assignments.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. French is a definite asset.
- Excellent organizing, prioritizing, monitoring, and documenting skills.
- Proven policy acumen in at least one of the CSPA priority areas of climate or trade policy.
- Good interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, consultants, suppliers, and member companies.
- Adept at working under pressure, managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to travel within Canada on occasion.
- Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours on occasion.
