Junior Trader


As a Junior Trader, you will be responsible for executing and managing trades, in line with 1832 Asset Management L.P.'s core values, which guide the investment and decision making process at the firm. The Junior Trader will work closely with a team of Portfolio Managers, Analysts, Traders, and 1832 Asset Management support teams to add value to the trade and cash management process.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:


  • Execute global equity transactions ensuring fiduciary duty of best execution is met at all times and to all clients;
  • Support Senior Traders in managing orders, trade flow and operational processes;
  • Monitoring market activity and advise on timing of execution with regard to short term dynamics and liquidity.
  • Support the portfolio management team by providing market intelligence, macro views, and data requests;
  • Understand the broader investment objectives behind trade orders and to consult proactively with portfolio managers and investment analysts; and

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role.
The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
  • Mathematically and technically inclined
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience trading and executing equity markets
  • Ability to work under pressure accurately, efficiently and effectively
  • CFA, completed or in progress, would be considered an asset
  • Strong, energetic and dynamic character with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Completion of a University degree in a related field of study (Commerce, Economics, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team of investment professionals.
  • Buy-side or Sell-side experience preferred
  • Experience Strong systems knowledge, including Bloomberg and other trading systems, Charles River, etc.
