The Opportunity:
Our client, a Mining Company based in the Northeast of BC, is seeking a highly skilled individual to join their team as an IT Specialist/Network Administrator. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and managing Windows Servers and Networking systems. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Technology or IT Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operational environment of our clients Data Center Operations services and Network Infrastructure.
Additionally, you will be expected to provide support in Server management and Infrastructure, including Cisco Switches and Palo Alto Firewall, when required. This may involve stepping in for senior team members or taking on additional workload as necessary.
This position is based in Northeastern, BC and will require visits to mine sites as dictated by project needs and support requirements.
What You’ll be Doing:
- Monitor our security system and respond to the security incidents.
- Support virtualization technologies, e.g. (ESXi),
- Expert support of our clients Computer/Server system, including servers, applications, databases, PCs, equipment/Hardware, nodes on the wired or wireless networks, and related software.
- Assume responsibility for server management and infrastructure tasks when required, such as covering for senior team members or during periods of high workload.
- Responsible for Backup System, Disaster Recovery Planning, performance monitoring, Servers, Active Directory, MS Exchange, and SharePoint.
- Cambium P2P Radio Networks experience and knowledge is highly desirable.
- Good working knowledge/understanding and hands-on experience of Cisco Switches (Meraki), Palo Alto Firewall, Field Area Networks, Wi-Fi Aps.
- Provides the senior skills required for day-to-day operational, Help Desk Incident resolution, and enforces policies and processes.
What You’ll Need to be Successful:
- Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow through on projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information Systems, or equivalent.
- 5-10 years of experience in network systems engineering or systems administration.
- Knowledge of Cisco Switches and Palo Alto Firewall is required.
- Knowledge of security-related systems and applications such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, virtual private networks (VPNs), and associated network protocols and concepts.
- Ability to be calm and focused when dealing with incident response situations and remain vigilant and prepared for potential security threats and breach attempts.
- Hands-on experience of MS SQL database is highly desired.
- Expertise in Windows multiple domain administration, Server Admin, Domain security and Active Directory.
- Willingness to work after hours when required. Have experience in supporting a 24x7 production environment with an on-call responsibility.
- Experience troubleshooting and identifying the root cause of issues.
- Flexible and adaptable; being able to work in ambiguous situations.
