Under the direction of the Manager, Course Material Services and Retail Procurement, the incumbent is directly responsible for the purchase and inventory control of all branded and unbranded merchandise, including, but not limited to, Stationery and School Supplies, Giftware, Uniforms and Apparel, for Connections the Campus Store. The incumbent is the key point of contact for College departments to make special orders for these categories.
The incumbent will review and approve any branded product to be purchased by Connections: The Campus Store to ensure compliance with the Algonquin College Merchandise Identity Standards.
The incumbent will conduct seasonal focus groups and review regular feedback received through the Campus Services customer feedback program for input to identify trends for our student community. The incumbent is expected to recommend new product lines to the Manager as well as keep the operation informed of changes in trends as they occur.
The incumbent is responsible for the active monitoring of inventory levels for product categories under their purview and must make stock balancing decisions based on sell through reports versus planned sales.
Based on established sales targets, the incumbent is responsible for the planning of their merchandise buys in order to achieve monthly and annual sales goals. The incumbent works with Campus Services Marketing and the Retail Services management team to align planned buys with seasonal events and participates in the planning of promotional and marketing initiatives. The incumbent is expected to identify new products to be ordered, in line with current trends and client wants/needs. The incumbent is an active user of Open-to-Buy procurement planning practices.
The incumbent is responsible for achieving sales targets and established margins for their product categories.
Required Qualifications

• Experience utilizing a financial software system, negotiating contract terms and pricing and adhering to procurement directives and guidelines.

• Experience working with an inventory management solution, creating sales forecasts and targets and achieving sales and margin expectations.
• This position is paid at Payband F
• Two (2) year Diploma or equivalent in Business related discipline.
• A minimum of three (3) years experience in retail purchasing in a medium to large company or institutional environment, which would include experience sourcing apparel and giftware products and developing direct relationships with suppliers/vendors and negotiation for best pricing.
• Successful completion of purchasing courses approved by SCMA (Supply Chain Management Association) would be an asset.

Please note: this position is a 40 hours per week position and is expected to work on-site at the Ottawa Campus.
