JOB TITLE: Facilities Operations and Maintenance, Director’s Office – Co-op


DEPARTMENT: Public Works and Engineering

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hour workweek


LOCATION: Hybrid Model – when working onsite, you will report to the location of West Tower.


HOURLY RATE: Year 1: $19.48; Year 2: $20.41; Year 3: $22.03; Year 4: $24.01

Area Of Responsibility


Reporting to the Supervisor, this position will assist with the implementation of special projects and support key business initiatives for Facilities Operations and Maintenance (FOM). Exercise judgement to resolve matters which may be political and sensitive in nature. Assisting with projects from its inception to execution while translating corporate initiatives into project plans, continuous and effective research, collaborating with stakeholders and providing their recommendations to the leadership team. The student will assist and support project management efforts by working with the Director alongside working with the FOM Leadership team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Perform qualitative and/or quantitative research, analysis and evaluation of data to assist with synthesizing information, producing reports and/or identifying trends (e.g. develop summaries, options, recommendations, etc.).
  • Provide insights and ideas on, as well as design and participate in, Public Works and Engineering project working groups.
  • Participate in meetings, working groups and teams, as a FOM representative, in the development and implementation of projects for the department while ensuring projects achieve the corporate objectives.
  • Provide administrative and consultative support to corporate committees.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to build relationships for project implementation and success outcomes.
  • Assist with leading and managing all aspects of assigned project’s performance full life cycle from inception and business case to deployment and post-implementation review to meet project management methodology and corporate service standards.
  • Research best practices and develop project plan for identified projects to ensure milestones and targets are achieved.
  • Prepares reports and updates to senior management.
  • Identify and facilitate resolution of issues related to project development, progress and implementation. Analyze and present status to senior leaders.
  • Assist with the development of project outlines, descriptions and implementation plans to support departmental initiatives.


Selection Criteria
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft office/software
  • Student must be enrolled in any University or College Co-Op. Proof of enrollment letter will be requested prior to job offer.
  • Enrollment in post-secondary studies, preferably in Planning, Political Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or similar equivalent program
  • Able to exercise discretion and tact in sensitive and confidential situations
  • Political and business acumen
  • Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.
  • Strong Analytical skills for complex problem solving
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • A police criminal check will be required (to be paid for by the student).
  • Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills; detail oriented, well organized and able to prioritize complex tasks and meet critical deadlines
