Job Description
You will be working full time hours but on a 6 month contract, this can be hybrid or remote depending on your location.


Provides expert employee relations advice and governance to ensure that employee relations policies, practices and strategies support the business strategies and meet regulatory/legal requirements. Ensures that initiatives and HR solutions (programs and processes) are consistently and effectively implemented across the business groups. Supports various employee relations programs & initiatives managed internally and with vendors, including work related to acquisitions, divestitures, employment transitions, separation agreements, and outsourcing.


Advice & Counsel


  • Breaks down strategic problems, and leverages data to provide employee relations insights (including employee transitions) and recommendations.
  • Provides expert employee relations advice, interpretation and governance to ensure that employee relations policies, practices and strategies support the business group strategies, meet regulatory/legal requirements and recommended resolutions are fair, equitable and mitigate risk. Acts as a subject matter expert to interpret applicable regulations & policies and makes recommendations on how to resolve business issues.
  • Provides support for severance and reductions in force (e.g., consulting with businesses, severance packages, calculations & communication with impacted employees/managers).
  • Performs the initial intake and primary assessment for employee relations requests to determine facts, identify issues & mitigate risks.
  • Ensures HR solutions are consistently and effectively implemented across the business groups. Develops employee relations solutions and make recommendations based on legislated requirements, understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.
  • Supports various employee relations programs & initiatives managed internally and with vendors (including acquisitions, divestitures, employment transitions, separation agreements, and outsourcing).
  • Investigates employee complaints within area of expertise, provide solutions for early resolution while practicing sound case management oversight.
  • In an advisory capacity, provides governance for employee relations matters by advocating for fair and equitable treatment of employees while ensuring that employee relations practices and strategies are balanced against the need of the business/group and enterprise strategies; it has the dual challenge to protect the legal and legislative rights of both employees and the organization.
  • Educates and builds capability of managers on all aspects of Employee Relations including relevant HR policies, procedures and practices, legislation and regulations, as well as amplifying training and learning opportunities.


Operations & Governance


  • May act as the point person for key internal or external relationships (third parties, COE, vendors, etc.)
  • Performs the initial intake and primary assessment for employee relations requests to determine facts, identify issues & mitigate risks.
  • Provides input into the planning & implementation of operational programs and executes within required service level agreements and standards
  • Monitors and tracks relevant program performance, and addresses any issues
  • Manage case requirements for supporting severance and reductions in force (e.g., consulting with businesses, providing severance packages, responding to impacted employees/managers).
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders & ensures alignment between stakeholders.
  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • ER Consulting advisory channel support employees, managers and partners across Canada through telephone calls initiated to the Human Resources Centre 1-800 line.
  • Regular and ongoing utilization of technology platforms for case management for each new case opened enabling regular and ongoing accuracy in reporting, metrics and insights/trends.
  • Monitor and track any case management themes that results in insights to support operating model efficiencies or key risk indicators.



Qualifications:


  • Appropriate HR designation preferred..
  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.
  • Law degree would be nice but not not required
  • Influence skills - In-depth.
  • Relationship management skills – in-depth
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - In-depth
  • Dispute resolution skills – in-depth
  • Data driven decision making - In-depth.
  • Ideally 2 to 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Collaboration & team skills - In-depth.
  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
