POSITION OVERVIEW:


Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineering Lead to work at our Glenmore Office in Calgary, AB (Suite 240, 4000 Glenmore Court SE, Calgary, AB T2C 5R8). The Electrical Engineering Lead will be accountable for leading and overseeing the electrical engineering team within Startec Compression & Process. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Electrical Engineer Lead will be involved in managing and coordinating electrical engineering projects, providing technical expertise, and ensuring the successful completion of projects. The Electrical Engineering Lead plays a critical role in guiding the team towards achieving project objectives, maintaining technical standards, and driving innovation.


KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):


TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP (Weighting 50%)


Subject Matter Expert (SME)


  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to the electrical engineering team.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, specifications, and documentation.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in electrical designs, methodologies, and processes.


Electrical System Design & Development


  • Lead the design and development of electrical systems, components, and circuits.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and analysis to evaluate design options.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration and optimization of electrical designs.


Quality Assurance & Testing


  • Develop and implement quality control processes to ensure the reliability and performance of electrical systems.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Conduct testing, verification, and validation of electrical designs.


OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT (Weighting 30%)


Resource Allocation


  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Lead and manage electrical engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop project plans, define objectives, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies.


Collaboration & Communication


  • Present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Communicate project requirements, technical concepts, and progress updates clearly and concisely.


TEAM MANAGEMENT (Weighting 20%)


Team Leadership


  • Assign tasks, set performance goals, and provide guidance and support.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and encourage innovative thinking within the team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to the electrical engineer team.


Continuous Improvement


  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency enhancement, and cost reduction.
  • Drive innovation in electrical engineering methodologies, tools, and practices.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in electrical engineering and propose innovative solutions.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:


  • Electrical Load Analysis: Ability to perform electrical load analysis to determine power requirements for various equipment and systems. Calculating voltage drops, conductor sizing, and selecting appropriate electrical components.
  • Electrical Safety: Knowledge of electrical safety practices, protocols, and equipment. Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and implementing measures to mitigate electrical hazards.
  • Control Systems: Familiarity with control systems, including motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Ability to design and troubleshoot control circuits.
  • Electrical Design: Proficiency in designing electrical systems, circuits, and components.
  • Testing and Commissioning: Familiarity with testing and commissioning procedures for electrical systems and equipment. Conducting functional testing, performance verification, and commissioning activities to ensure proper operation.
  • Electrical Drawings and Documentation: Experience in creating and reviewing electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Proficient in interpreting and generating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Power Systems: Knowledge of power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, generators, and distribution panels. Understanding electrical load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and power factor correction.
  • Electrical System Integration: Knowledge of integrating electrical systems with other disciplines, such as mechanical and civil engineering. Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration and interoperability.
  • Electrical Codes and Standards: Thorough knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards such as the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards, and local regulations. Ensuring compliance with safety requirements and industry best practices.
