Our client is looking for a Director, Legal & Regulatory work for a 12-month contract. Hybrid working model from Ottawa, ON area.

The role: The Director, Legal and Regulatory provides leadership and guidance to the Compliance and Regulatory Teams, as well as advice and support to senior management in connection with all legal, regulatory and compliance work.
Your Responsibilities:
- Manage all legal work, including regulatory compliance with privacy/data retention, accessibility/AODA requirements, employment standards, health and safety requirements, Procedural Code annotations and interpretations, and risk reporting, as well as advising on day-to-day legal matters
- Advise on matters of interpretation in respect of constating documents, in particular the Participation Agreement
- Draft and keep up to date Procedural Code annotations and interpretations
- Oversee and manage a team consisting of a Manager, Compliance, Regulatory Analysts, and General Research Analyst. Provide leadership, feedback, coaching and mentoring to support a high level of engagement and satisfaction
- Manage all compliance work, including compliance monitoring and enforcement program
You should apply if:
- You are fluent in English, with excellent written and oral communications skills. French is a nice to have.
- You have a minimum one year of experience in either contract law, employment law, privacy law or insurance law
- You have your Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws and you have been Called to the Bar in a Canadian Jurisdiction
- You’re a master multi-tasker, and you have the ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously (and sometimes with competing priority levels and deadlines).
- You have experience and good judgment in contract review and interpretation, as well as risk reporting.
- You have a minimum five years’ experience managing and leading a team, preferably a legal, regulatory or compliance team
The following are considered assets for this role:
- French/English bilingualism is a strong asset
- Experience working with regulatory procedures and regulatory bodies.
- Experience drafting regulatory submissions and critiquing position papers and arguments
- Experience working in telecom or broadcast industry, preferably experience with consumer and social policy and/or codes of conduct
