Description


Our Spare headquarters is located in Vancouver, BC, but this position is open to remote work options within Canada.


We are hiring a VP or Director of People (depending on skills and experience level) for a 12-14 month parental leave contract! As the VP or Director of People, you will be a member of the Spare Executive team and own the People & Talent function. You will…


  • Execute and refine People & Talent strategy
  • Continually refine and improve People & Talent operations and processes
  • Lead and the People & Talent team
  • Provide business partnership and consultation to Executive team and people managers

Key Responsibilities


People & Talent strategy, operations, and processes:


  • Be the subject matter expert on People & Talent, staying abreast of market and industry trends and best practices, and educating/adopting internally as appropriate
  • Accountable for overall People & Talent effectiveness - including developing, measuring, and tracking KPIs and identifying and resolving improvement areas
  • Continually refine and improve People & Talent operations and processes, based on quantitative and qualitative data, and employee and candidate feedback
  • Execute and refine the People & Talent strategy, in consultation with Executive and People & Talent teams
  • Accountable for key People & Talent functions, including but not limited to: performance management; compensation; talent acquisition; employee engagement; learning and development; diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB); organizational development (career frameworks, headcount planning, team structure); policies; and tools and systems


Business partnership and consultation to Executive team and people managers:


  • Provide ongoing consultation to Executive on organizational challenges using a data-driven and people-centric approach and identifying legal and business risks
  • Provide regular training, and ad-hoc guidance and coaching to People Managers on wide breadth of employee relations issues


Lead the People & Talent team:


  • Assist with prioritization and removing blockers to achieve team OKRs
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and development to People & Talent team members
  • Ensure that team members have tools, resources, and training they need to be effective in their roles


Skills, Knowledge And Expertise


  • Solid understanding of employment law across Canada and working knowledge of legal considerations for international contractors
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, including previous experience developing and delivering internal training
  • Previous experience in business partnering with Executive leaders and people managers
  • Proven ability to manage strategic and operational projects through effective prioritization, organization, and time management skills
  • Previous experience in managing and developing a small team (4-5 team members)
  • Leverage a data-driven and people-centric approach to People & Talent
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex organizational and employee situations in a rapidly growing and scaling company
  • Ability to work with a high sense of urgency and comfortable working in a fast paced and constantly changing environment with high levels of ambiguity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and influence at all levels to gain buy-in
  • Previous experience in leading a People & Talent function for a fully remote small or mid-sized startup, including owning strategic and operational components of People & Talent strategy
