JOB STATEMENT:
The Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations is a key member of the IT Leadership team. Primary responsibilities include the development of the overall vision, integrated strategy, analysis, architectural design, development and purposeful execution across all emerging infrastructure and operations functions including cloud, virtualization, storage, end-user computing, enterprise tools, communications, messaging, and networks. Reporting directly to the CTO, the Director will plan, design, and direct all operational activities of the IT Operations department, including Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and related procedures, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. The Director will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. The role involves implementing best practices and processes for Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) to align IT services with business needs, improve service quality, and optimize infrastructure operations. The Director will possess strong technical infrastructure expertise, project management skills, and vendor management capabilities. They will contribute to the development and execution of the organization's IT strategy, ensuring that IT aligns with the business strategy and delivers the necessary capabilities for success. Continual service improvement and a service-oriented approach are key elements of this role.
This position will drive innovation initiatives to identify and implement new technologies, methodologies, and solutions that enhance the organization's IT capabilities and support its strategic objectives. They will foster a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging creative thinking and collaboration to drive continuous improvement and stay ahead of industry trends. Efficiency will be a central focus, optimizing IT processes and operations to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and maximize resource utilization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Authorizing and overseeing the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, and support of all hardware and software based on department needs;
- Providing senior-level technical expertise and leadership in the areas of IT architecture, design, support, and service delivery;
- Building and managing a team of Infrastructure professionals, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Establishing, monitoring, and analyzing performance metrics and service level agreements to ensure business and customer needs are being properly met; and
- Ensuring all infrastructure systems configurations and operating procedures (run books) are fully documented and properly maintained;
- Taking responsibility for third-party relationship management with hardware and software vendors, cloud hosting providers, electrical and mechanical contractors, telecom/internet providers, and other critical suppliers of infrastructure products and services;
- Benchmarking, analyzing, reporting on, and making recommendations for the improvement of the IT infrastructure and IT systems;
- Overseeing infrastructure design, delivery, operations, and support (Cloud, Network, Storage, Database, and virtualization);
- Developing and implementing all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision;
- Developing business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives;
- Directing research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts;
- Analyzing IT infrastructure needs and leading the design and implementation of new system architectures;
- Directing and maintaining the Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) for all critical systems;
- Developing and reviewing budgets for and from IT department divisions and ensuring they comply with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives;
- Formulating and deploying long-term strategic plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective information processing and communication technologies;
- Researching, evaluating, and staying current on emerging security tools, trends, policies, best practices, techniques, and technologies;
- Managing the Infrastructure Operations staff and Network Security staff and contractors to ensure that business processes are streamlined and optimized for value;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in vendor management and capacity planning in a fast growth environment
- Progressive hands-on technical experience in IT infrastructure – architecture, systems administration, routing/switching, network design, database systems, virtualization, storage area networks, etc.
- Knowledge of NetApp (Storage) and VMware (virtualized servers) is preferred
- Proven experience in best practices for cloud architecture and security.
- Experience in supporting enterprise applications in a high-availability environment
- Knowledge of Cloud operations and/or managing Cloud managed services provider is required (AWS, Azure)
- Demonstrated strong leadership and management skills as evidenced by prior management of a team for at least 3-5 years
- Knowledgeable in compliance and information security
- Minimum 10 years of total IT experience, 10+ years of Infrastructure and Security experience, 3-5 at a senior level
- Background and understanding of ITIL Service management
- Demonstrated ability to design and direct support and infrastructure projects with a mindset geared toward continuous improvement
- Post secondary degree in Computer Science\Engineering or related field.
- Certification in Information Security or related discipline is preferred
- Knowledge of a modern tech stack of cloud applications
