Job Title: Director, Financial Reporting & Compliance
Reports To: Senior Director, Financial Reporting & Compliance
Department:Corporate Accounting
Position Summary
The Director, Financial Reporting & Compliance will be responsible for preparing financial documentation that is publicly distributed and for developing and supporting internal and external working relationships of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with coordinating deliverables with multiple teams within department, while fostering a team-oriented work culture, and help mentor junior team members.
- Assist with the preparation and review of the annual information form and management information circular including correspondence with the Trust’s legal counsel along with external auditors;
- Assist with the maintenance and accounting of the Trust’s financial instruments;
- Assist with special projects periodically requested by Senior Management
- Conduct research on other REITs in the industry and keep abreast of changes in accounting policies and presentation and disclosure changes;
- Analyze changes in fair value with respect to the Trust’s investment property portfolio;
- Work closely with all stakeholders within the organization to ensure the accounting records for legal entities are complete and accurate, and proactively identify and analyze accounting transactions that may have an impact on the REIT’s income tax filings;
- Assist with the preparation and review note disclosures and supporting working papers concerning the Trust’s quarterly consolidated financial statements and management discussion and analysis (MD&A);
- Assist with the preparation and review of the legal entity financial statements for each of the Trust’s underlying subsidiaries that support the year end tax filings (T2, T3 and T5013)
Academic/Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance;
- CPA designation (CA, CGA or CMA) is required.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within the organization;
- Strong familiarity of IFRS – Realpac experience would be an asset;
- Computer skills, including advanced Excel, and familiarity with Word and PowerPoint;
- Detail oriented and responsible individual with a proven track record of taking ownership and follow through to ensure all loose ends are resolved;
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience – preferably in an audit or tax setting with exposure to publicly listed companies;
- Experience in managing an Accounting team with a proven track record of following through to achieve desired results;
- Sound business judgment and numerical skills;
- Market and demographic research and reporting.
- Proven organizational and time management skills in dealing with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
