MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE: $105,504.00 per annum

This exciting new position will be responsible for the delivery of youth programming at the City of Brampton’s newly developing youth hubs while building consistency and alignment in other recreation spaces operated by the Recreation Division. The Coordinator will also engage with youth serving providers to ensure there are holistic services and programs offered for Brampton youth. The position will require being present at the site locations 5 days a week and will include evenings and weekends to ensure that the youth hubs are operating as envisioned and planned. City of Brampton Recreation is looking for a forward thinking leader to operate these vibrant spaces for youth in our communities.


Area Of Responsibility


Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Youth Hub, this position will be responsible for leading various programs, projects and initiatives that support the development of City’s Community Youth Hubs. The coordinator will develop business plans and conduct research and analysis on emerging issues to enable informed decision-making and will work with various stakeholders across the City to ensure programs within the hubs meet the needs of Brampton’s youth. The Recreation Coordinator, Youth Hub will be responsible for all aspects of youth hub programs, from planning to implementation. The successful candidate will drive and enable youth engagement and development by fostering collaborations with youth groups and youth serving organizations; regional, provincial and federal government partners, non-profit organizations and various other stakeholders. The coordinator will work with youth on capacity building to ensure the provision of quality program delivery and customer service excellence that meet the current and changing needs of the youth in the City.


STAFF SUPERVISION & LEADERSHIP


  • Create action plan to ensure program quality assurance within the youth hubs.
  • Recruit, train, manage, coach and provide guidance to promote effective full and part-time employee relations and encourage increased moral, innovation and productivity to meet business needs.
  • Ensure current self-knowledge of technical skills for staff development.
  • Provide ongoing supervision including planning/scheduling, work distribution/follow-up, training/coaching and monitoring of work conditions.
  • Responsible for the supervision of an existing Recreation Programmer and the part-time community outreach coordinators reporting to the programmer in addition to supporting the function of the Youth Hub Advisory Group for the purposes of the optimal functions of the youth hubs.
  • Evaluate training needs, and manage execution of staff trainings, orientations and meetings to ensure services and programs are safe and of high quality within the hubs.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ensure the training needs of staff are met.
  • Manage adherence to governing legislations and regulations; corporate policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
  • Available for crisis support, physical/behaviour interventions, hands-on assistance and decision-making.


PROJECT COORDINATION & OPERATION SUPPORT


  • Identify, build and foster internal and external relationships for project implementation and success outcomes.
  • Identify and facilitate resolution of issues related to youth hub development, progress and implementation; analyze and present status to the Recreation Leadership Team (RLT).
  • Acts as a liaison to the Youth Hub Advisory Group
  • Collaboratively work with the Youth Hub Supervisor to develop Partnership agreements, Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs), and inventory of services.
  • Create Youth Hub Advisory Group and develop terms of references.
  • Provide project management expertise to support and recommend solutions and changes in ways to meet corporate priorities
  • Play a lead role in selecting youth service providers to operate out of the hub


YOUTH HUB ENGAGEMENT & STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS


  • Work with the Youth Hub Advisory Group to identify barriers and solutions to enable access to youth programs within the youth hubs.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of youth hub development and engagement projects;
  • Apply community development and engagement theories to engage youth in the Brampton community meaningfully;
  • Continuous improvement of youth experience through anticipating, managing and resolving concerns, requests inquires and successes.
  • Conduct community/neighbourhood needs assessments and research to identify and better understand the youth need to inform planning of hub initiatives and strategies.
  • Work with youth service providers and groups, non-for-profit organizations, government agencies, health care centres and other networks to participate in social actions relevant to the youth hubs;
  • Manage community events (including analyzing follow-up reports and debriefing);
  • Support and enhance volunteer opportunities and placement programs within the youth hub spaces, as well as championing the benefits and necessities for evolving volunteerism models, capacity building, recruitment and volunteer recognition.
  • Play a lead role to support city-wide youth development and engagement initiatives;
  • Develop and implement youth development and engagement strategies within the youth hub spaces that help strengthen the capacity of Brampton youth.
  • Promote the development and engagement of youth leadership within the youth hubs.
  • Participate in preparing grant proposals and/or developing fundraising initiatives/ projects to generate funds for distribution to individuals with disabilities and/or unique needs requiring financial assistance to support recreation service fees.
  • Support all on-going and future relations between the municipality and its numerous organizations serving youth.


PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT


  • Gain an understanding of community and neighbourhood action plans and initiatives to support on-going youth hub programs.
  • Develop and implement action plans to meet targets and potential growth of youth hub spaces in Brampton.
  • Manage program development and brochure development processes.
  • Work with the Marketing Team to promote youth development initiatives within youth hubs.
  • Research, develop, and implement new youth programs and services within the youth hubs.
  • Report on trends and areas of growth including future opportunities to be integrated into the future of the youth hubs.
  • Promote and create awareness of programs and develop strategies to increase youth recruitment and retention within the youth hubs and broader Recreation Division.
  • Assist Recreation Supervisor, Youth Hub with marketing and business plan to ensure Brampton youth are accessing and aware of youth hub programming and services offered.
  • Ensure that the youth hub enable youth groups to utilize the space optimally.
  • Manage quality programming through ongoing evaluations of youth hub programming.
  • Work with youth groups and community partners to develop and implement innovative programs and activities within the youth hubs based on the youth needs.


ADMINISTRATION


  • Adherence to all mandated deadlines.
  • Lead community outreach; develop marketing/communication plans with COB Marketing team.
  • Respond to complaints and enquiries as assigned and take appropriate actions with the Recreation Supervisor, Youth Hub.
  • Work with Booking Team to book/manage out rentable space.
  • Review documentation of incident/accidents reports and manage follow-up accordingly, applying appropriate follow-up actions and guidance with teams, volunteers and customers; modifying programs and services to ensure safely operating programs and services.
  • Proficiency gathering information, setting priorities and providing direction and sound judgement with respect to youth hub matters.
  • Manage service provider list, agreements, and schedules to ensure optimal use of the meeting rooms in the youth hubs.
  • Prepare reports for Recreation Supervisor, Youth Hub which may include the collection and analysis of data, customer satisfaction, revenue and expenses, etc.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of youth hub programming.
  • Manage and review daily, weekly and sessional statistics and checklists.
  • Participation in the youth hubs quality assurance program.


Selection Criteria


EDUCATION:


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma preferably in related field (Social Sciences, Recreation & Leisure, Kinesiology, Education, Behavioural Sciences, Economic Development, Public Policy, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or suitable equivalent).


Required Experience


  • Minimum 5 years experience in project coordination and community development.


Other Skills And Assets


  • Must be able to resolve complaints and behaviours from youth in a non-judgmental approach.
  • Must be able to seek relevant data from customers, staff and external comparators in the industry and make recommendations for program changes.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Must be able to motivate and retain well-trained volunteers and staff.
  • Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures related to the youth
  • Political acumen.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as youth groups, government departments public and private sector organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and follow-through; ability to work well under deadlines, oversee multiple projects and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to be highly professional while also personable, approachable and outgoing and comfortable interacting with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong Presentation skills; Facilitate and convey concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Knowledge of Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal Governments, experience in policy, legislation and regulation analysis.
  • Proven Community Development experience.
  • Problem solving, decision- making, and conflict resolution skills in order to make and modify operational and strategic decisions pertaining to youth.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing and evaluating youth programs and services with the principles of equity, inclusion and diversity.
  • Technology savvy, with a computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, database use and internet-based technology
  • Experience working with diverse youth and experience in community engagement and outreach.
  • Knowledge of online platforms (e.g. Instagram, Tik Tok, Bang the Table community engagement platform) is an asset
