Youth Peer Coordinator Jobs

HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification

To support the vision and principles of the City of Mississauga's Youth Friendly Culture.

Raise awareness and involvement for youth within the community to engage, interact and provide information about youth-friendly activities and community resources.

Provide mentorship and guidance for youth-driven and youth-led events and activities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Flexible hours of daytime, evenings and weekends will be required.

Provide orientation to new peer education volunteers in their capacity of providing peer education and information to clients.

Provide education and information to clients when required.

Provide ongoing support to peer education volunteers.

Provide feedback and evaluation of volunteers in their capacity of providing peer education and information to clients according to evaluation procedures.

As needed, provide advocacy and referral support for abortion and prenatal care clients seen by the peer education program.

As it relates to your position fulfill responsibilities outlined by the agency’s funders.

Proven strong project management skills with ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines.

Ability to make decisions and work independently, strong personal ethics, integrity, reliable, time management and organization skills.

CYW Degree/diploma or a related Human Services discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong administration and leadership skills and experience in the non-profit environment including motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, empowerment and demonstrated initiative.

Strong computer skills (including MS Office Suite) and experience

Develop process to engage youth with lived experience at all stages of the process.

Design, implement and evaluate recreational, social, cultural programs and activities which benefit and create a variety of experiences for youth

Follow risk management protocols; update risk management and emergency protocols as required; complete incident and accident reports in a timely manner

Experience and/or education related to social work, counseling, addiction and drug or alcohol abuse

Prepare and manage program budget

Marketing and event planning skills

Minimum of three years’ experience in a relevant field is required; directly working with youth is preferred.

Demonstrated ability and experience in creating opportunities for meaningful youth engagement and fostering youth leadership.

Experience in the application of public health principles and practices, partnership development, and community development

Experience relevant to children and youth, health promotion strategies in school and community settings preferred

Baccalaureate degree in a relevant health care discipline (ex. registered nurse, occupational therapist, social work, nutritionist).

Registered/licensed with your regulated health care discipline, college or association is required (registered nurse, occupational therapist, social work, nutritionist).

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation with particular emphasis on children/youth recreation programs and events.

Demonstrated exceptional organizational and children/youth recreation program/event planning skills.

Necessary knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of volunteers and organized recreation.

Necessary knowledge of the methods, procedures, techniques and equipment used in teaching, instructing, organizing and leading a wide variety of activities.

Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Strong Customer Service and People Management skills.

Ensure current self-knowledge of technical skills for staff development.

Provide project management expertise to support and recommend solutions and changes in ways to meet corporate priorities

Knowledge of Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal Governments, experience in policy, legislation and regulation analysis.

Provides education to CYYA programs to increase staff understanding of value of peer support and the Youth Peer Support Worker Program.

Co-facilitates mental health literacy educational presentations as a consumer educator.

Knowledge of the principles of recovery.

Completes and maintains related records and documentation on activities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Understanding of the value of peer/client involvement.

Proven organization and time management skills.

Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Zoom and Outlook.

Excellent professional written and oral communication skills.

Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.

Knowledge of not-for-profit community resources is an asset.

Working knowledge of technical aids and devices for people with vision loss is an asset.

Knowledge of project management and demonstrated capacity to complete projects

Knowledge and experience and child of youth populations and services

Experience in Mental Health and Addiction services preferred

Knowledge of participatory engagement frameworks and role of lived expertise in health service planning

Knowledge and awareness in Equity, Diversity Inclusion, Reconciliation and Accessibility informed approaches

Knowledge of the stepped care model and continuum of mental health and addictions services
