Youth Drop-In Program Assistant (Part-Time)

The City of Guelph Recreation Division offers a variety of recreational programs for people of all ages and abilities in weekly sessions throughout the year. We offer a variety of programs at various locations including but not limited to, the West End Community Centre, Victoria Road Recreation Centre, Evergreen Seniors Community Centre, Guelph Sports Dome, and Shelldale Family Gateway.

We are currently accepting resumes for part-time Youth Drop-in Program Assistants. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, Youth Services, successful candidates will lead a fun and motivating setting for children and youth and be inclusive to all participants.

Hours of Work

2-6 hours per week, per program, plus additional hours available. All programs include a minimum of 15 minutes for preparation and 15 minutes for take down and program planning time.

Programs we are hiring for may be on weekdays, weeknights or weekends.

We are looking for qualified instructors to teach in the following areas/skill sets

• Sport Fun for Everyone (Tuesday October 3 – November 7, 2023 – Ottawa Crescent Public School, 615-715 p.m.)
• Youth Ball Hockey (Friday October 13 – November 17, 2023 – West End Community Centre, 600-700 p.m.)
• Nerf Tag/Archery Tag (Thursday October 5 – November 9, 2023 – Guelph Sports Dome, 600-700 p.m. & 700-800 p.m.)
• Teen Drop in (Friday October 13 – December 8, 2023 – West End Community Centre (700-1000 p.m.)

Your Role

• Provide enthusiastic and creative programming.
• Provide fully inclusive program to participants of all abilities and skill levels.
• Ensure participant confidentiality.
• Plan and develop 6 weeks of program plans.
• Provide standard first aid and fill out incident/accident forms.
• Create a welcoming environment for all participants.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Communicate with the program team.
• Ensure facilities and equipment are maintained and kept in an acceptable, safe condition.

Qualifications

• Ability to respect and maintain participant confidentiality.
• Safe Food Handler’s Certificate for all cooking programs.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Previous experience in program planning, development, and implementation.
• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C.
• A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required at time of offer.
• Previous experience working with children and youth.
• Full availability is required for scheduled program day and time.
• Skills and experience related to programs listed above.

Rate

$18.21 per hour
