Job Description

Program Facilitator - BecomingHER

Founded in 2018 by Joelle Kabisoso, Sisters in Sync is a Black-led and serving non-profit organization based in Hamilton, Ontario. Our mission is to support Black girls and women to be, become, and belong through programs, services, and advocacy efforts.


Sisters in Sync is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Facilitator for its BecomingHer program. Working directly alongside and reporting to the Founder and Executive Director, Joelle Kabisoso, the Program Facilitator will foster positive relationships with participants of the BecomingHer program and lead open and honest discussions in an engaging way around topics relating to self-esteem, emotional intelligence and resilience.


About Becoming Her

Becoming Her is a 12-week program intended to support young Black girls in the Hamilton community aged 13-19 in their transition from girlhood to womanhood. We offer Black girls the opportunity to be, become and belong by increasing their self-esteem, helping them understand their emotions, and building resilience through toolkits and resources to grow into womanhood. The program facilitator will have to lead activities, chaperone occasional trips, and provide one-on-one mentorship.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

- Facilitate weekly discussions of various topics relating to self-esteem, emotional intelligence and resilience in an engaging way (i.e., using crafts, props, videos, etc).

- Foster positive relationships with participants of the Becoming Her program.

- Have a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the adultification bias and use this as a premise of understanding lived experiences

- Be available everyWednesday and ThursdayfromSeptember 13th, 2023, to November 29th, 2023, between 4:30-6:30PMto facilitate Becoming Her sessions. The facilitator must have access to reliable transportation to commute to/from the venue.


Qualifications

- Bilingual – English and French is an asset.

- Ideal candidate is a university, post-graduate student, or someone with experience working with youth

-MUST Reside in Hamilton, ON.

- Strong, professional work ethic with a collaborative attitude.

- Personable and able to engage in conversations with adolescent girls

- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.


Work Environment

The Program Facilitator must commute to a venue located in Hamilton, ON twice a week to facilitate in-person sessions. The successful candidate will be able to meet with the Executive Director, Joelle Kabisoso, remotely to discuss the program sessions.


Commitment

The anticipated start date for the role is September 13th, 2023, and will go until November 29th, 2023. The Program Facilitator will be expected to facilitate in-person sessions twice a week for two hours but will need to arrive 30 minutes earlier to set up. Additionally, the Program Facilitator will need to provide a weekly written progress report.


Compensation

The facilitator will be compensated a flat rate of $1,500.00 CAD.

Payment schedule

End of Week 1-$750.00

End of Week 6-$375.00

End of Week 12-$375.00
