Job Description
POSITION: COORDINATOR OF COMPASSIONATE SCHOOL SERVICES


DEPARTMENT: COMPLEMENTARY AND COMPASSIONATE SERVICES


SALARY: FROM $84,310 TO $112,411 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (KI) is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik.


The Coordinator of Compassionate Schools is responsible for the coordination, supervision, evaluation, research, and development of the school board’s goal to become trauma-informed in its practices and organization as part of a holistic education system.


Function & Duties


Under the supervision of the Director of Complementary and Compassionate Services, the Coordinator must, in particular:


  • Any other related tasks as determined by his/her supervisor.
  • Organizing and providing training and support to Compassionate Schools team, schools, and School Board personnel;
  • Work in collaboration with all departments in understanding the impact of trauma on learning and integrate a trauma-responsive approach in all schools;
  • Ensure that the suggested framework and tools are rooted in Inuit culture and values;
  • Supervise, mentor and manage employees under their responsibility;
  • Participation in preparing the staffing plan, and selecting staff;
  • Create and facilitate the understanding and impacts of generational and cultural trauma to all members of Kativik Ilisarnilirniq;
  • Managing budget;
  • Develop and promote the implementation of procedures and intervention tools to support behavioural management, well-being and student success;
  • Supervise Compassionate Schools teams in their professional development and support to schools;
  • Create, integrate and adapt a framework for safe and caring school environments that meet the needs of students in our school board


Qualifications


  • Teaching Certification valid in Québec;
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field certifying a minimum three-year university program or hold a senior or manager position for which an undergraduate degree is required under the minimum qualifications;


The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualification requirements if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board


Requirements


  • Excellent proven classroom management skills, knowledge of the impacts of generational and cultural trauma, and reflective teaching practices;
  • Culturally aware and collaborative decision-maker;
  • Knowledge of approaches to discipline, such as the restorative justice, social and emotional learning, and positive behavioural support;
  • Good communication skills.
  • Autonomous, open-minded, prioritizes the full participation of Inuit staff members in directing change;
  • Fluency in two (2) of the three (3) official languages of KI (Inuktitut, English and French);
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture;
  • Must be able to travel throughout Nunavik, when required;


Classification / Salary / Benefits


Class 00-07* as per the working conditions of KI’s managers: from $84,310 à $112,411 annually depending on qualifications and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
