Express Employment Professionals in South Calgary is currently hiring a Controller for a reputable client in Calgary, AB. Our client is a locally owned and operated full service, integrated furniture distributor offering premier office solutions in Alberta and British Columbia. They offer project management, design, operations and installation services.
As the Controller, you will be responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, maintaining fiscal records and preparing financial reports. The position involves general accounting, payroll, cost accounting, budgetary controls, account reconciliation and supervision of the accounting team. Your strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a dynamic and creative setting will be vital to your success in this role.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Ensure accounting software is current, accurate and used to its most effective capabilities
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable functions and related accounting processes, including receivable collections
- Complete special projects on an individual or team basis as assigned
- Establish and maintain relationships with external parties in the areas of accounting, legal and banking
- Conduct annual insurance renewal and maintain company benefits plan
- Oversee the payroll process including preparation of T4/T4A slips and summaries
- Maintain, review, and complete all general ledger reconciliations and financial report analysis, investigating and resolving any account discrepancies
- Oversee the administrative and information technology functions of the organization
- Review, analyze and implement internal controls/business policies and procedures
- Prepare annual as well as monthly budgets and forecasts as required
- Review and reconcile bank statements
- Prepare working papers for year-end external review engagement
- Prepare and file GST/PST returns
- Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting functions
- Manage daily cash and forecasting processes
- Ensure accounting entries are made promptly, accurately and supported including reconciling accounts on a monthly basis
- Manage wires and online banking
Qualifications:
- 8+ years experience with 3+ years in a similar role
- Team oriented with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization including management
- Previous experience in a service industry and comfort with WIP/progress billing accounting is preferred
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office 365 and ERP systems is required
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Self-starter and comfortable collaborating in a team environment
- Post-secondary education in accounting
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- CPA designation preferred
