Department Summary


CILLDI, the Canadian Indigenous Languages and Literacy Development Institute, provides training to Indigenous language speakers, teachers and learners to build capacity for language revitalization efforts within communities. CILLDI also partners with Indigenous communities in Alberta and elsewhere on a range of language documentation and revitalization projects.


Position Summary


The Community Projects Coordinator will manage CILLDI's language documentation and revitalization projects with Indigenous communities. They will work closely with the CILLDI Director and community partners (including Elders, teachers, and language learners) to plan, organize, and execute a wide range of projects aimed at supporting Indigenous language revitalization, using their skills in language documentation, linguistic analysis and project management.


Duties


  • Managing the data gathered through language documentation sessions
  • Providing support for CILLDI couses and events
  • Coordinating the efforts of CILLDI staff and their community partners to meet project objectives on time
  • Developing a range of of original language resources to support community revitalization efforts
  • Carrying out advanced linguistic analysis on a number of different Indigenous languages


Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Linguistics or related field;
  • Experience in working with Indigenous communities, particularly in Western Canada;
  • A valid Alberta driver's licence
  • Experience in working with speakers to carry out language documentation and description;
  • Familiarity with the basics of language revitalization strategies;
