Professional
8 Month Term (August 28, 2023-April 26, 2024)
Classification: Band F
Salary Rate: $76,537-93,522 (prorated to length of term, based on 37.5 hours/week)
Overview
St. Francis Xavier University is a top-ranking Canadian university focused on academic excellence, innovation in teaching and research, service to society, and international outreach. We are currently seeking a Clinical Therapist to join our community for an 8 month term.
Summary Of Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Health, Counselling and Accessible Learning and is responsible for the delivery of professional clinical services within a Collaborative Care/Interdisciplinary team setting. As a member of the Health and Counselling Centre team, the Clinical Therapist will offer supports to StFX students across a range of modalities, including individual, group and community-based interventions. The incumbent will demonstrate a wholistic framework of practice that reflects critical analysis and evidence informed assessment and intervention skills, which will form the basis for the clinical context of therapy and the therapeutic milieu. This framework includes a demonstrated ability for advocacy/social action.
A complex range of specialized knowledge and skills will be utilized by the incumbent to provide psychotherapeutic interventions with young adults/students who are affected by mental stress and illness, substance misuse and related issues. Recognizing the additional stresses brought on by COVID-19, the incumbent will be prepared to respond to these new challenges effectively and creatively, with a focus on building resilience and healthy coping skills. The primary goal of these interventions is to support students in developing and enhancing healthy personal and lifestyle goals, as well as the life skills necessary for positive and productive participation across personal, academic, social and employment domains. This position plays a key role within the Health and Counselling Centre team and across Student Services, through collaborative work with Health and Counselling Centre colleagues, Student Life staff and other StFX community campus partners.
Qualifications/Skills
StFX is seeking a candidate with strong clinical skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships within the university and local community around issues related to mental health and wholistic wellness. The successful candidate will be collaborative by nature, have a broad understanding of Post-secondary transition issues, be able to work independently, and demonstrate creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness. The incumbent will have relevant experience working with emerging adults, and will demonstrate a developmental and harm reduction approach to intervention.
StFX is seeking candidates who are committed to contributing to our priorities of equity, diversity, and inclusion. A demonstrated ability in fostering a climate of inclusion and cultural safety is a strong asset. Preference will be given to applicants who bring lived experience of historically excluded groups.
The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Social Work with a minimum of two years of directly related clinical experience following completion of graduate studies, and will be registered as a
regulated Health Professional in Nova Scotia. They will have training and clinical experience in evidence-based treatment approaches, as well as strong grounding in trauma-informed practices. They will possess superior interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills, as well as demonstrated ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and decision-making skills. This is a full-time sessional position based on working 37.5 hours per week during the regular academic year (approximately September 1- April 30 annually). This position will require a regular work schedule of daytime and evening hours, along with flexibility for occasional weekend work, as necessary.
Application Instructions
Closing date for applications is August 10th at 5:00pm. To apply please submit a letter of application and a resume in confidence to Human Resources, StFX University at [email protected]. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
