About The Role
The Hillel Therapist & Wellness Professional, reporting to the Chief Campus and Culture Officer will provide virtual counseling and therapy to undergraduate and graduate students in individual and group interventions. They will deliver client-centered social services, education, training and support for staff and students in a collaborative community setting. They will provide information and referrals to additional mental health support systems and link students to integrated services and resources that address their individual needs. This is a hybrid position. The professional will travel to our 9 campuses a few times a year to engage, train and build relationships with students and staff. All counseling and group work will be done virtually. This full time position is grant-funded.
Key Responsibilities
  • Licensure (or immediately eligible) to practice as a mental health professional in good standing in the Province of Ontario
  • Counseling & Crisis Management
  • Collaboration with Hillel Ontario Staff
  • Billing students for services using sliding scale.
  • Summer flex hours (Fridays off in June and July)
  • Comfort and competency in coaching and counseling virtually

  • Registered through the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or registered through the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO)
  • Previous experience working with teens, college students and/or young adults
  • Previous experience working with teens, college students and/or young adults; and providing counseling virtually.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a fully licensed practitioner.
  • Track and evaluate progress data to measure growth and effectiveness for donors and stakeholders.
  • You have demonstrated that you are a self-starter and capable multi-tasker who will use these skills to build a clinical practice within Hillel
  • Documentation and Record Keeping
  • Travel to campuses across Ontario as needed. The majority of time will be spent virtually but occasional campus visits will be required.
  • Provide education and training to staff and/or student leaders on mental health and wellness topics.

  • Conduct workshops or facilitate wellbeing promotion initiatives as appropriate, in partnership with the campus Hillel’s engagement team.
  • A Master's degree or Doctoral level degree in social work, psychology or counseling from an accredited college or university.
  • Additional training, licensure, or certification related to the treatment of young adults, individuals, and/or families (Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) etc.) is preferred.
  • Maintain knowledge of current resources in the Greater Toronto Area as well as across the province of Ontario.
  • Ongoing supervision (internally and clinical supervision externally)

  • Adheres to legal and ethical standards of care, including scope of practice, client privacy and record-keeping, HIPAA, and cultural competency.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, training, clinical supervision and staff gatherings.
  • Cultural competence with Judaism or Jewish culture is preferred
  • Comfort working both independently and with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Clinical responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment implementation as appropriate.
  • Supports students and staff on wellness initiatives, wellness in the 6, wellness weeks and more.
  • Work with Chief Campus Officer and advisory team to help launch and support the Mental health and wellness pillar
  • Build relationships with key referral supports on campus including the university’s student crisis response team and /or in the community.
  • A network of terrific colleagues from across the Hillel movement.
  • Perform telehealth clinical counseling services to Students
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate wellness practices into current Hillel experiences and/or coach student leaders to do so.
  • Provide referrals and case management services to clients as needed.
  • The project will prioritize knowledge mobilization and seize opportunities to capture, integrate, share and promote best practices among other communities

  • Maintains professional and timely documentation of services in electronic medical record including, but not limited to intake and case notes, treatment plans, and other forms or documents which may be needed or required from time-to-time.
  • A market competitive base salary with a starting range between $70,000 - $85,000 annually.
  • Cultural competence with Judaism or Jewish culture is preferred
  • Supervise an MSW student intern for their field placement beginning in year two of this role.
  • Strong project management and excellent communication skills as building a new clinical practice within a community-based organization will require both.
  • Address acute student crises and triage active concerns alongside campus Hillel staff.

  • Vacation starting at 15 days per year, Mental Health/Wellness days and Jewish holidays
  • Administration, Supervision and Management
