BC Doctors of Optometry (“BCDO”) is a member-based non-profit organization that represents over 900 Doctors of Optometry in B.C. and is the primary resource for vision care and eye health. BC Doctors of Optometry is dedicated to advancing the profession of optometry and is the vigilant voice on issues affecting the eye health of all British Columbians.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a newly created role that will provide strategic leadership of the organization and represent the needs of the 900 optometrists in British Columbia to government, media, and the public. The COO will have overall operational responsibility for BC Doctors of Optometry, ensuring Board and CEO approved objectives are achieved and all functional areas are developed, supported and evaluated. The new COO will work with members to adapt to changes in policy affecting the profession, provide valuable services and resources through the organization, and take advantage of new opportunities arising from their expanded scope of practice.
The ideal candidate brings a track record of success as a senior leader within a professional or industry membership association, regulatory agency, or other similar entity in the health, non-profit or public sectors. Functional expertise in Finance, HR, and/or corporate services is a definite asset. The ideal candidate will bring credibility, vision, strategic thinking, and an ability to interact and build productive relationships with a range of stakeholders. As a highly skilled communicator, the successful candidate has proven to be effective in presenting an organization’s position and vision in a wide range of arenas.
