Unsinkable is an innovative mental health charity founded by Olympic hero and mental health influencer Silken Laumann. Our mission is to humanize the way people access and experience mental health support.

Through the power of storytelling, Unsinkable helps people bridge the gap between struggling with their mental health, and taking steps towards mental well-being. Unsinkable meets people where they are on their journey, through inspirational and supportive Storytelling, Champion, and Youth programs.

The Unsinkable movement is building, and we are seeking like-minded change makers focused on making a difference to mental health support in Canada.  

The Unsinkable Board of Directors is interestedin extraordinary individuals who are willing to devote their time, energy and talent to making a noticeable impact. Our Board of dynamic leaders is both influential and instrumental when it comes to achieving Unsinkable’s ambitious vision.

Unsinkable’s Board sets the strategic direction, continuously raises the bar on effective governance policies, and oversees the activities of management, ensuring that it is accountable in a transparent and prudent manner. This is a skills-based board that reflects the significant needs and demands required for Unsinkable to grow its impact during a time of mental health crisis, and is made up of dedicated and diverse members from a variety of sectors and professions.

Board Directors are normally elected up to a three-year term with the possibility to serve up to 6 years.

We select our Board Directors based on the experience and capabilities of each member and in consideration of specific skill sets required by the Board. Candidates should be willing to:

• Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Willing to devote the time and energy necessary to perform the role of Director on a working board. This includes contributing 3 to 5 hours monthly to actively participate in board routines and lead or co-lead a strategic committee.
• A sustainable future by partnering with the executive director to further the organization’s mission and programs.

We are interested in applicants with strong fundraising and corporate giving experience who will chair the Fundraising and Major Gifts committee and will help Unsinkable to further our financial sustainability to increase our community reach and impact.
