Who We Are:

MarketLab is a start-up investment research company in the high growth retail investor space. The concept came from the Founder’s experiences as an investor in the hedge fund and mutual fund industries, where he concluded that the return outperformance for professional investors (hedge funds, mutual funds, institutional investors) versus retail investors has more to do with access to information than financial acumen. From deep-dive reports on companies; reporting analysis; economic forecasts; market sentiment; etc., the edge that Wall Street research departments provide to the pros vastly stacks the deck against everyday investors. MarketLab’s goal is to level the playing field by providing high-quality financial research and analysis, tailored to the unique needs of retail investors – concise, focused, and jargon-free. And under a sponsorship and ad-supported model, we intend to provide this to our potential target market of +80 million retail investors for free. What We Do:

MarketLab’s ultimate objective is to provide full equity research coverage across the majority of stocks that retail investors transact in, as well as accompanying economic, sector, and market strategy coverage; and to build out a platform that provides investors with the data, analytics, and tools to invest smarter and more efficiently. We are a new company having just completed our Pre-Seed capital raise, and are ready to launch our initial content streams which we anticipate to include daily market/financial/sector newsletters, and longer form market strategy and analysis pieces (written and video).

How You’ll Make an Impact:

The role of Market Strategist is an integral piece to our core team. To start, the role will entail working with the Founder to build out the initial content streams and coverage. As the business expands, it is expected that this role will transition to incorporate managing the Market Strategy team and potentially the broader Equity Research team. Job functions may include:

• Effectively communicate complex financial concepts into concise, easy to understand ideas for layperson investors
• Conduct competitor research and maintain strong understanding of competitor products and coverage
• Flexibility and creativity in developing existing and new content streams to better appeal to user base
• Build and maintain strong working relations with assigned investment staff, marketing, and operating teams
• Build, maintain, and communicate an expert level of knowledge on key themes, strategies, and companies in the US equity market
• Think strategically and extrapolate financial and economic events into sound investment logic and insight

What We’re Looking For:

• Passion for investing and financial markets
• Desire to play a fundamental role in building a start-up
• Prior experience in the financial services industry (Equity Research, Investment Management, Equity Sales, Economics), ideally 2+ years minimum

• Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines

Who You’d Be Working With:

My name is Ryan Metcalf and I’m the Founder and CEO of MarketLab. I live in Toronto, Canada with my wife and two kids. After completing my Master of Financial Economics at the University of Toronto, I began my career as an Investment Banker at Credit Suisse’s London, UK office in 2011 (RIP, CS!). After that, I moved back to Canada to work at a small healthcare focused hedge fund before ultimately moving to a large mutual fund to cover healthcare stocks. I came up with the idea of MarketLab during the pandemic. It seemed crazy to me that despite the massive influx of new investors and technology, that even the most passionate investors were managing their family’s financial future based on news snippets, forums, and 10Ks they can’t even correctly understand. I’m passionate about investing and following the market, and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at entrepreneurship. I’m excited to do both at MarketLab, and hopefully help some people make a better future for themselves along the way.

What Else?:

• Position is 100% remote; however, if the candidate is Toronto-based we can facilitate regular in-person working sessions
• In addition to salary, the hired individual would receive equity in the company
• Expected salary of C$70,000
