POSITION SUMMARY:
The Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) are offering an exceptional paid internship opportunity for a highly motivated senior undergraduate student with a Korean cultural background. The intern will join the Art & Cultures Department in Toronto and work closely with the ROM curator of Korean art & culture and the Asian collection technician to ensure the accuracy and accessibility of the Museum’s Korean collection and resources.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to assist the curator with facilitating programs and curatorial research and gain hands-on experience with the collection management program The Museum System (TMS) and the Alma library software system. You will also have the opportunity to gain valuable day-to-day museum work experience.
This is a unique opportunity to gain experience and skills in a world-class museum setting while making a meaningful contribution to the representation and interpretation of Korean art and culture. We encourage highly motivated and passionate individuals with a Korean cultural background to apply for this prestigious internship.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Head of the Department of Art and Culture, you will:
  • Contribute to the development of engaging online content, in alignment with the Museum's vision and mission.
  • Assist with the seamless data-entry of new collections, including new acquisitions and books, into The Museum System (TMS) and the Alma library software system.
  • Take the initiative to revise data in TMS, ensuring accuracy by adding new and missing information and making corrections using the Revised Romanization of Korean Language (2000)
  • Attend meetings with donors, collectors, and community partners, learning the importance of relationship-building and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with the curator on curatorial research and programming, gaining valuable experience in the development and execution of high-quality museum programs.
  • Perform other related duties as required, contributing to the success of the department and the Museum as a whole.
Join us and make a difference!
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with Korean art history is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Experience with the proper method of handling objects is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media programs) are essential.
  • This internship is exclusively for senior undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds, with a preference for those from the Korean cultural background.
  • Fluency in reading and typing both Korean and English languages are required, with desirable knowledge in the Revised Romanization of the Korean language (2000)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and research skills are a must.
