Job Description
Office of the Piluwitahasuwin (Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Engagement)

The Office of the Piluwitahasuwin serves as a vital link between the University and Wabanaki and other Indigenous communities. The Office develops and fosters positive internal and external relations between the broader university community as well as with the Indigenous community, territory and its stakeholders.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week


Salary Range: $38,924 - $48,655 per annum


Responsibilities


Reporting to the Piluwitahasuwin, the Assistant to the Piluwitahasuwin, will provide administrative and executive support to assist in the implementation of the strategic goals of the Piluwitahasuwin.


  • Supports the day-to-day coordination and management of Indigenous engagement priorities, activities, projects and committees led by the Office of the Piluwitahasuwin; TRC committee work, assisting with the coordination of events and Indigenous Student Orientation.
  • Facilitates regular and effective engagement and relationship-building with a variety of communities and stakeholders to advance the strategic goals of the Office of Piluwitahasuwin.
  • Perform general office administrative duties.
  • Manages the schedule of the Piluwitahasuwin by arranging meetings, travel, meeting space, equipment, compiling agenda items and background information, record & prepare meeting minutes, and follow up on the status of action items.


Qualifications


  • Good understanding of the diversity of Indigenous peoples in Canada and a keen understanding of Indigenous history, current affairs, knowledgeable about Indigenous communities, culture and traditions, preferably regional.
  • Certificate, diploma or degree in office or business administration, or related field.

  • Experience working in post-secondary institutions considered an asset.
  • Work experience with supporting project management activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Indigenous language considered an asset.
  • Advanced technical, communicative and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated relationships with Indigenous communities and/or organizations.
  • Excellent time management and work prioritization skills.
