STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING


The Strategic Communications & Marketing Office (SCM) plays a significant role in supporting the university's strategic vision, direction, and mission. It is a bi-campus team responsible for advancing and elevating UNB's reputation through insight-focused and performance-driven brand leadership, communications, marketing, public relations, creative services, media relations and issues management.

Salary Range: $54,388 - $70,711 per annum


YOUR FOCUS


Reporting to the Associate Director, the Media Relations Strategist is UNB's in-house expert on the workings of television, radio, print and online journalism and is skilled in establishing a controlled and positive image of UNB in the media. Positioned within the Communications Specialty Team, this role works collaboratively with a team of excellent and passionate writers and communicators, designers, marketers, and videographers.


  • Sit on committees as a representative for SCM leadership.
  • Support to UNB community with media requests.
  • Other assignments and projects to support the health, growth, and productivity of the SCM team.
  • Assist in the development of media relations for various campaigns.
  • Help build UNB's profile and reputation through earned media.
  • Position UNB Faculty and Alumni as thought leaders in the media.
  • Develop and foster relationships with key media stakeholders.
  • Serve as the University's primary liaison with the media.
  • Analysis of media requests and recommend responses.
  • Collaborate on crisis communications.
  • Help develop and implement a proactive media relations strategy that integrates with the larger communications strategy at UNB.
  • Develop and deliver media training.
  • Manage media listening, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Regularly provide insights gained from monitoring to help evolve SCM strategies quickly.


What You Bring


  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 5 years of related experience in the field.
  • Undergraduate degree in communications or journalism.

  • A professional and competent communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Skills in using office equipment, computers, media monitoring tools, Microsoft Office 365, and its various applications, as well as other office software.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and produce high-quality content such as press releases, commentaries, op-eds, speeches, and brand journalism. Strong media relations experience as well as media training.
  • Able to focus on detailed tasks and work to deadlines.
  • An exceptional storyteller.
  • Able to deliver high-quality results under pressure, tight deadlines, and often evolving priorities.
  • A detail-oriented, organized individual who is self-motivated.
