Job Description
Areas Of Responsibility


Safety, Environmental & Quality


  • Be aware of environmental responsibilities and maintains compliance to environmental regulations.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the Power (Steam) and Recovery plant in accordance with the Power Engineers Act and Regulations for the Act and applicable provincial regulations.
  • Develops operating and maintenance parameters to enhance efficiency, energy conservation, environmental performance, while complying with corporate and government safety and environmental regulations and maintains ISO registration.
  • Ensure personnel adhere to strict safety protocol and practices in the execution of their responsibilities an provide the training and tools to perform work safely.
  • Engages personnel in the review and changes affecting safe operating and lock-out procedures.
  • Leads safety programs, establishes safety objectives and tracks progress.


Operations & Key Job Accountabilities


  • Manages Power (Steam) and Recovery chemical treatment programs.
  • Maintains fire system equipment to established standards.
  • Documents and reports non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Pressure Vessels Act, to ensure the operation and maintenance of all equipment in the Mill, covered by the Act, conforms to the requirements of the Act.
  • Ensures all pressure vessel repairs, alterations, installations, and operations are in compliance with the Boiler Branch regulations.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
  • Responsible and accountable under the Power Engineers Boiler and
  • Delegates responsibility and authority to the Superintendent and Area Supervisors; to carry out the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the department.
  • Authority to shut down the entire mill if necessary to ensure the safety of personnel or equipment if common system integrity is suspected.
  • Plans, coordinates and leads annual maintenance shutdown activities in the Power (Steam) and Recovery Department, including capital projects, major maintenance, mill maintenance and operations activities to ensure the shutdown is well planned and executed and start-up is on schedule.
  • Administers PSV and steam trap inspection programs


Employee Relations & Customer Satisfaction


  • Contributes to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results.
  • Develops and maintains a favourable employee relations climate based on fair, firm, open and consistent administration of the company policies, procedures and where applicable the Collective Agreement.
  • Provides coaching and leadership to department personnel. Utilize and develop strengths and abilities within the team.
  • Liaises between Operations, Maintenance & Engineering, and Technical departments to ensure effective use of cross-functional resources for the Power (Steam) & Recovery department.


Financial Accountability


  • Accountable for monitor and effectively utilize personnel related expenses, such as overtime, training, attendance.
  • Evaluates new equipment, processes and procedures to improve operations and / or reduce costs.
  • Responsible for the preparation and development and application of the operating and capital budgets with particular emphasis on minimizing maintenance and operating costs in the effluent, water treatment and chemical preparation areas


Staff Management


  • Establishes and maintains extensive partnerships and develops a positive working environment with the team and ensures the team members are empowered, encouraged, and rewarded for their contributions and performance. Mentors and guides the team.
  • Establishes and clearly defines responsibility for staff on the team and ensures the ongoing management and support of staff and effective employee performance.
  • Attracts and retains people with key skills with the focus on proficiency training and career development.


Qualifications


  • Proven leadership skills, capable of engaging a team across a broad scope
  • Demonstrated high standards of integrity combined with a track record of excellence in performance
  • Minimum of 5 – 10 years with High Pressure Boilers and related equipment
  • Second Class Power Engineers Certificate of Competency (however must be willing to attain 1st Class Power Engineers Cert.)
  • Combination of equivalent experience and education
  • Solid technical skills combined with excellent project management and strategic skills
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislated regulations, i.e. OHS, ESA, Boiler Branch, WCB, Human Rights
