Job Description


WSP’s Bridge Group in British Columbia is involved in many high-profile transportation projects in the province. This is an exciting time to join a dynamic and growing team!


We are seeking a Bridge Engineer with experience in the design and delivery of transportation projects, including highway, transit, rail and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, and unique structures. Duties include analysis, design, inspection, evaluation, cost estimating, tender document preparation and construction support.


This position can be based within WSP’s Bridge Teams in either Vancouver, Nanaimo, or Kelowna. Vancouver is a great city offering modern urban living; Nanaimo offers excellent hiking, fishing, and mountain biking, and provides a great jumpstart for weekend surf trips to Tofino; while Kelowna offers excellent lakeside living with fantastic skiing. All of these locations provide opportunities to work on high profile transportation projects throughout BC and Yukon.


A day in the life:


Your primary responsibilities will include the conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures. You will be using state-of-the-art software tools to develop design, drawings and reports for transportation infrastructure in BC, Yukon, and around the world. Most days will be office-based but could also include bridge inspection or construction field review.


You will be working alongside a team of professionals with a diverse range of experience in a highly supportive environment. Collaboration and mentorship are the cornerstones of our approach and ensure that you are an important member of a rewarding and successful project.


What You’ll Bring To WSP ...


  • An undergraduate degree in civil engineering with a structural focus from an accredited university;
  • Experience with field review and inspection during construction;
  • Experience with structural analysis software used in bridge design such as CSIBridge, MIDAS, etc;
  • Experience in structural analysis and design of new and existing bridges;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Experience with inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures;
  • A thorough knowledge of current bridge design codes and standards (CSA:S6 in particular);
  • A team player attitude with a willingness to mentor and collaborate with team members.
  • Existing or eligibility for P.Eng status with EGBC;
  • Expertise in the planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts;
