Selwyn House School is an independent school for 550 boys (K-12) in Westmount, Quebec. We support our students and staff, and reward their efforts as well as their achievements. We are looking for professionals to join our dedicated, energetic staff who teach our courses, coach our teams, supervise our activities, and communicate openly and regularly with parents. Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Advancement Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the implementation of a comprehensive school community engagement program. The program aims to provide meaningful opportunities, events, and activities for all members of the Selwyn House School community (particularly alumni), and enhance partnerships and financial support for the school. The Advancement Coordinator works closely with the Advancement team on events and activities, related communications, and assists with fundraisers and campaigns. This role is expected to grow in the coming years.
Main Responsibilities:
The Advancement Office Coordinator’s role will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Assisting in the development of opportunities for current students to connect with alumni including a mentorship program for senior and Pre-University students
- Producing and collaborating on communications that engage a variety of audiences (alumni, current and past parents, current and former staff) through newsletters, social media, website, annual Veritas magazine, and alumni directory platform
- Supporting the Director of Annual Giving & Alumni Relations and the Director of Advancement on fundraising priorities
- Helping develop and implement a strategy for the continuous expansion of active alumni
- Performing other duties as directed by the Director of Advancement
- Some evening and weekend work is required for events
- Assisting with planning and executing alumni events and activities, such as Homecoming, Chapter Reunions, golf tournaments, community events, volunteer opportunities
- Supporting the Old Boys’ Association Board (alumni board) and its strategic directives
- Working collaboratively with school leadership, volunteers, parents, faculty, staff and students to optimize alumni and community outreach and engagement activities
- Providing effective support to alumni chapters, nationally and internationally
Qualifications/Skills:
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and collaborate with Advancement colleagues in an open-office environment
- Strong technology skills, comfort with software programs and/or databases (especially Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge), social media
- Familiarity with event planning
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English and knowledge of French
- Experience within an alumni association, an asset
- Resourceful, able to handle multiple priorities, able to work to deadlines
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Undergraduate degree (preferred)
- Sound judgment, tactful, diplomatic
- Relevant experience in development and/or alumni relations and/or fundraising, preferably in independent schools
- Accurate data entry of constituent information
- Proven success at and interest in networking and relationship-building
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Creative thinker
