Job Description

Job Title: COMMISSIONS SPECIALIST & ACCOUNTING SUPPORT

Department: Finance

Reports to: Financial Controller



Position Overview


Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Commissions Specialist will be responsible for providing our client with commissions processing and accounting support. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of financial data, commission processing and reporting in a dynamic, quality oriented environment.


The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, problem solving and analytical abilities as well as experience with reconciliations and handling volumes of data.



Essential Job Functions


  • Perform data entry by importing or inputting commission data from a variety of source documents into the BMS system
  • Assist with process improvements
  • Investigate discrepancies and follow guidance in problem solving and resolution of variances
  • Assist with preparation of accounting inputs (employee expenses, credit card statements and reconciliations, cash receipts)
  • Provide support and back up to Financial Controller, as required
  • Become a subject matter expert in relation to the commission/finance module of our Business Management System (Applied Epic)
  • Gather and organize relevant commission statements and prepare data for import or input to Business Management System (BMS)
  • Generate reports, review accuracy of data, reconcile details to summaries
  • Prepare monthly commission tracking, summaries, reconciliations to General Ledger, commission payable calculations for cases not captured on the primary CRM system and other reports as needed
  • Follow procedures to verify accuracy and prepare/convert data into BMS compatible format before processing
  • Review commission calculations from BMS reports and validate amounts for payments



Education/Experience Requirements


  • Accounting or Business Diploma from an accredited College or University preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a finance/accounting support role or commissions administration

  • Ability to learn to verify data from various source documents and gain understanding of various document data formats and layouts, report on discrepancies, research most cases and escalate variances to the manager
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy when dealing with large amounts of data
  • Ability to prioritize, handle time sensitive workload to meet deadlines
  • Passion for numbers and managing financial information
  • Desire to develop and maintain a high level of knowledge about our industry and its evolving needs
  • Discipline to adopt proper processes when handling confidential information, established procedures and instructions
  • Strong technical proficiency with computer applications/systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills to perform searches to confirm information exists prior to entering data
