Job Description
Sustainability Intern - General Pool
Position: Candidate for Sustainability Internship
Organization: Various Canadian Environmental Nonprofit Organizations
Location: Canada. The position may be remote or in-person, to be determined by the hiring organization.
Time Commitment: 30 hours/week for a minimum of 13-26 weeks.
Start Date: August/September 2023
SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION & CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS:
Eco-Internships is a social enterprise designed to help small-shop environmental non-profit organizations (ENGOs) with human resources and staffing needs. One of the ways we support ENGOs across Canada is by connecting non-profits to funding opportunities to hire youth interns through wage subsidy grants and other funding. As part of our arrangement with hiring organizations, employers who partner with Eco-Internships also agree to support interns’ participation in our Intern Training Program to learn fundamental skills for ENGO administration and network with other interns in the ENGO community.
Mandatory training and ongoing mentorship are key parts of the internship experience. Participants in the program will be matched with designated Intern Mentors—and sometimes with an Eco-Internships Manager—to ensure that interns have the support they need to begin their careers in the ENGO sector.
Resumes submitted through this application pool will be initially reviewed by our team at Eco-Internships and considered for a first-round interview with the Eco-Internships hiring team. Resumes for selected candidates will later be distributed to various organizations participating in this program, who will then have an opportunity to schedule a second round of interviews with candidates. A candidate who is selected for an internship with an organization will receive an offer letter after the organization has completed its second-round interviews.
We especially thank our partners at the Sustainable Eastern Ontario Network, the Canadian Environmental Network, and the collective organizations of Sustainable Capacity Solutions for all their assistance in successfully executing this program. To learn more about Eco-Internships, check out this video: "What is Eco-Internships?"
Eco-Internships is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer and is committed to supporting an inclusive and diverse workplaces that is defined by mutual respect and collaboration. Employment opportunities are therefore available to all participants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical and mental disability, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Sustainability Intern will work under the guidance of a Manager and/or Board of Directors. They will also work with an assigned Mentor from another environmental group to help guide them in their role.
