Vice President (VP), Software Engineering


Jonas Software - RewardOps


Job Summary: As the Vice President of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the engineering department of our organization and managing its team members. You will play a pivotal role in driving technical innovation, managing software development teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality products and services. Your strategic mindset, strong leadership abilities, and technical expertise will be essential in shaping our engineering vision and driving the company's growth.


Responsibilities:


Leadership and Strategy:


  • Develop and communicate a clear engineering vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the team understands the “why” behind our client’s plans and are inspired to work hard to help realize the company’s vision
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to define and implement technology strategies that support rapid business growth and competitiveness.


Technical Excellence and Innovation:


  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in technology and identify opportunities to leverage them to drive business success.
  • Drive technical excellence across all engineering functions, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes
  • Foster a solution-focused culture that always seeks to enhance product development, performance, and efficiency.


Team Management:


  • Set clear performance goals and provide regular feedback, coaching, and career development opportunities to team members.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting diversity and inclusion within the engineering organization.
  • Manage and develop a fast-paced and high-performing engineering team, including software engineers, hardware engineers, quality assurance professionals, and other technical roles.


Project Delivery and Execution:


  • Monitor project timelines, resource allocation, and budget to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Implement effective methodologies, processes, and tools to drive efficiency and accountability within the engineering department.
  • Collaborate closely with all functions within the company to ensure clear communication and understanding of the market opportunity, and to ensure timely and successful delivery of engineering projects.


Stakeholder Management:


  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including executives, product managers, and business leaders, to understand their requirements and align engineering efforts accordingly.
  • Communicate technical strategies, progress, and challenges to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, vendors, and industry contacts.


Requirements:


  • Proven experience (10+ years) in engineering leadership roles, with a focus on software development and technology innovation. Background in ecommerce and customer loyalty programs is an asset.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing high-performing engineering teams, including recruitment, coaching, and performance management.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in software engineering principles, architecture, development methodologies, and languages/frameworks including JavaScript, React, Node.JS, and Ruby on Rails.
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience in driving product development and delivery in an agile environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to align technical strategies with business objectives.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
