Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Vice President Academic to provide strategic leadership and oversight for academic affairs within the Innivec group of post-secondary institutions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other senior administrators to shape and enhance the academic programs and initiatives across our institutions, with a specific focus on academic leadership, new curriculum development, skilling and reskilling, and online program management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Academic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership, set strategic direction, and foster a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within Innivec institutions.
  2. Curriculum Development: Collaborate with faculty members and academic departments to develop and enhance curriculum offerings that align with industry trends, student needs, and emerging fields, ensuring the curriculum remains relevant and meets the highest academic standards.
  3. Skilling and Reskilling Initiatives: Identify market demands and emerging skills gaps, and develop innovative skilling and reskilling programs to address industry needs and equip students with the necessary competencies for their careers.
  4. Online Program Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and management of online programs, ensuring they meet quality standards, engage learners effectively, and leverage technology to deliver an exceptional online learning experience.
  5. Academic Policy Development: Develop and implement academic policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and institutional goals, while promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equity in academic programs and services.
  6. Faculty Development and Support: Support and mentor faculty members, fostering their professional growth and providing guidance on effective teaching practices, curriculum design, assessment strategies, and integration of innovative instructional technologies.
  7. Quality Assurance and Accreditation: Establish and maintain quality assurance processes, including program reviews, assessments, and evaluation mechanisms, to ensure academic programs meet or exceed accreditation standards and institutional benchmarks.
  8. External Partnerships and Collaborations: Build and nurture strategic partnerships with industries, organizations, and professional associations to enhance collaborative opportunities, facilitate internships and work-integrated learning experiences, and foster research collaborations.
  9. Student Success and Support: Collaborate with student services and academic support units to enhance student success, engagement, and retention, and provide leadership in promoting student-centered approaches to teaching and learning.
  10. Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Work closely with senior administrators to develop and manage the academic budget, allocate resources effectively, and prioritize investments in support of academic initiatives and strategic priorities.


Performance Measures:

  1. Academic program excellence, including student satisfaction, retention rates, and success in achieving learning outcomes.
  2. Program accreditation and compliance with relevant quality assurance standards.
  3. Faculty development and engagement, including professional growth, teaching effectiveness, and student feedback.
  4. Innovation in instructional design, educational technologies, and pedagogical approaches.
  5. Collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance program relevance and industry connections.
  6. Effective leadership and communication within the academic department and across the organization.


Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of emerging trends, best practices, and technologies in post-secondary education.
  • Extensive experience in academic leadership roles, preferably at the executive level within a post-secondary institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, faculty, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance in the Canadian post-secondary education sector.
  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience in promoting and implementing inclusive practices within academic affairs.
  • Exceptional strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Financial acumen and experience in budgeting and resource allocation within an academic setting.
  • Proven expertise in curriculum development, skilling and reskilling initiatives, and online program management.
