About the opportunity:
The Transportation Specialist is accountable for ensuring that all third-party service providers, on behalf of Lactalis nationally, execute on-time error-free deliveries to Lactalis’s customers. The position organizes and tenders movement requirements to carriers, analyzes rate tariffs, freight classification, and delivery schedules, and makes recommendations to ensure Lactalis’s rates are the lowest possible while maintaining premium service levels
The attributes we are looking for:
- Act as key liaison between Lactalis Customer Service Group, the Supply Planning Group and third party Carriers. Provide daily shipment tracking and reporting in support of the OTD program. facilitate communication between the stakeholders ensuring that all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Participate in the development and the optimization of the transportation plan to enable greater efficiency of the distribution network. Propose and implement continuous improvement solutions to reduce Lactalis transportation cost.
- Organize primary transport, from plants to distribution centers and ensure the best saturation of vehicles in terms of weight and volume, as well as price
- Manage National freight claims to ensure that Lactalis has properly processed and received payment for products damaged or lost when in the possession of our third party Carriers. Manage National freight deductions ensuring that deductions adhere to the agreed upon rate and to ensure corrective action to reduce freight penalties that Lactalis receives.
- Participate in the tendering process by gathering lane/shipping information about the national transportation activity and customers’ profile as well as making recommendations to management and assisting with implementation of changes as required.
- Participate in key transportation projects and support annual continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor the efficiency of work, using daily and weekly operational key performance indicators. Propose and implement quick actions to reduce cost and service deviation.
- Utilizing ORD (TMS), organize and optimize customer deliveries by building Truck Load (TL), plus stops (load planning) and by interconnecting primary and secondary transports to get favorable rates for each truckload per lane per carrier.
- Ensure accurate audits are performed and sign off is given for the Linehaul Carriers freight invoices. Accurate invoice audit and approval for third party carrier invoices through (Ebydos/Workflow).
- Ensure the smooth movement of both finished goods and raw materials to our internal and external customers by managing all day-to-day issues in real time and ensure corrective actions are put in place. Carrier metrics for on time deliveries and claims are reported monthly to assist in carrier effectiveness reporting.
What you will bring:
- Proficient in the use of software applications such as Excel and Access.
- CITT / PLOG certification preferred
- Ability to achieve positive results, and focus continuously on process and cost opportunities.
- Customer Service focused.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a team player.
- Bachelors Degree or College diploma with relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in Transportation.
