Job Description

The North Kawartha Public Library is an accredited library with two branches, Apsley and Woodview, serving the surrounding communities.


The Technical Services Coordinator is a key staff member providing computer assistance to the Library’s patrons and staff and is responsible for duties related to the maintenance of public access computers, electronic resources, Integrated Library System (ILS), library website, and social media.

The Library offers a competitive salary range of $43,061 to $51,433, depending on experience, plus benefits. This position is 35 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday.


Purpose:

Reporting to the Librarian/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Technical Services Coordinator is responsible for maintaining all technological hardware including the public access computers, the Online Public Access Library, Integrated Library System, the server, and adjunct equipment such as printers/scanners. This position provides support to the Librarian/CEO in the day-to-day operations of the Library.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. ProviderecommendationsandassisttheNorthKawarthaPublicLibrary Librarian/CEO in establishing effective programs and objectives for the Library’s Technical Services.
  2. Maintainawarenessofdevelopmentsandtrendsintechnologyinregard to the provision of Public Library services.
  3. Provide the Librarian/CEO with details of third-party contracts established by Technical Services, as required.
  4. Ensuretheconfidentialityofallinformationinaccordancewiththe Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.
  5. ProvideadviceandassistancetotheLibrarian/CEOregardingfinancial concerns affecting Technical Services.
  6. Developcomputertrainingprogramsandworkshops.
  7. Maintainthecomputerapplications,hardwareandsoftwareupgrades.
  8. Monitor patrons who use the library’s public access computers.
  9. Assistthepublicwithreferenceserviceandvariouscomputer-related
  10. tasks.

10.Prepare and submit monthly computer usage statistics to the

Librarian/CEO.

11.Prepare flyers, newsletters and media releases for the Librarian/CEO.

12.Update and maintain the North Kawartha Public Library website and social media sites.

13.Assist with Library fundraising activities and participate when required. 14.Assist the Librarian/CEO with the completion of grant applications and

final reports.

15.Create and publish the yearly Community Directory. Contact and invoice

advertisers, maintaining current contact data and financial records for

advertising sales.

16.Train volunteers to provide computer assistance to Library patrons. 17.Under the direction of Librarian/CEO produces and maintains any forms,

records, reports and correspondence as required.

18.Participate in all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. 19.Attend meetings as required.

20.Other duties as assigned.


Supervision:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Training and Qualifications:

  • Valid Class G driver license.
  • Combination of post-secondary education in Library and/or Information Technology and/or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of library services network and Public Libraries Act.
  • Prior experience with Integrated Library Services an asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize a broad range of technology and devices.
  • Knowledge and experience using a wide range of computer programs
  • Such as: MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Two to three years’ related experience.


  • Typical climate-controlled office environment with occasional travel to other Township buildings. Work activities require visual and mental concentration for intermediate durations of time. Standard office hours, Monday through Friday. Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing less than 30 lbs (i.e. office supplies).
