Position Overview:
Responsible for carrying out all aspects of Operator activities; assigning work for water operations; providing, leadership, training and technical direction to staff; coordinating the use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create and manage work requests, work order back logs, as well as routine maintenance and inspection activities on operational equipment and auditing daily operations activities to ensure efficient operations that meet applicable Provincial Acts and Regulations and City standards to efficiently operate.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Three (3) year Community College Diploma in Civil/Environmental Technology or suitable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum five (5) years’ progressively more responsible experience related to the maintenance of municipal water distribution systems including one (1) year coordinating the work of others within a municipal unionized environment.
• Seven (7) years in a municipal public works department is preferred.
• Holds and maintains a valid Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Water Distribution Level 2 Operator License.
• Certified Engineering Technologist as issued by the Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists is preferred.
• Ability to self-manage, and identify issues, challenges, and opportunities and propose solutions.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and knowledge of specifications.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the Public, Staff, Consultants, and Industry.
• Ability to work in water infrastructure where movement may be restricted on an occasional basis (monthly).
• Perform On-Call as required, be available 24 hr / 7 days a week, work overtime and respond on site to after hour emergencies outdoors day and night in all types of weather related conditions (monthly).
• Physically capable of lifting objects between 25 to 100 pounds with some assistance (weekly).
• Record of satisfactory attendance and performance, as determined by referring to attendance and performance concerns obtained in the employee’s human resources file. Please note interview answers will be assigned marks.
