Job Description

Please note: This position will be primarily working on site
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Train Operations, the Rail Operations office is seeking a Supervisor, Train Operations who will ensure the Train Operation Services contractor delivers high quality services that meet GO Transit, customer, host railway, and regulatory requirements.
What will I be doing?
  • Develops recommendations for and/or implements approved standard procedures for investigating and reporting all accidents and incidents involving contractor-operated trains and customers, trespassers, road vehicles, and other equipment
  • Reviews technical and functional aspects and planned changes to the contractor’s operation to identify weaknesses that could affect customer service, satisfaction, and safety
  • Responds to the scene of incidents, including pedestrian and vehicle accidents, derailments, rules violations, and other incidents impacting GO service,
  • Acts as GO Transit’s Incident Manager, and is given the responsibility of representing the host railway at the scene of incidents when the railway delegates the responsibility
  • Supervises the documentation of performance and procedural deficiencies and recommends corrective actions; measures for improvement, including procedural revisions and additions, and subsequently communicates changes to all relevant parties
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, complaints, regulatory issues, and claims involving GO trains operated by the Train Operation Services contractor
  • Works with the host railway, GO Transit departments, and contractor to coordinate operations with railway work program and construction work, to mitigate the impact to service and customers
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a diploma in Business Administration, Transportation or Rail Operations, Logistical planning, or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Analytical skills to review, monitor, and audit the contractor training programs and identify deficiencies to develop recommendations for improvement, and to investigate accidents, incidents, complaints, regulatory issues, and contractor claims
  • Minimum six (6) years’ experience in heavy rail commuter operations, with direct involvement in customer service
  • Knowledge of applicable Safety Management, front-line transit operations, safety programs, transportation planning, and policy development would also be assets
  • Knowledge of Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and related Safety Management, front-line transit operations, safety programs, transportation planning, and policy development would be an strong asset
Working Conditions
  • Position is required to be available outside of regular office hours and is to be available on call to address issues as they arise
