About The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Nutrition and Food Services (NFS), the Nutrition and Food Service Supervisor is responsible for the front-line supervision of employees, day-to-day operations, meal service and delivery and, ensuring safe and efficient operations of assigned work areas at Valley Regional Hospital. The Supervisor acts as an ambassador and liaison within the integrated model of Nutrition and Food Services and is a resource and leader for employees in the area and remote sites. As part of the management team, assists in carrying out administrative and operational functions within designated area(s) and in accordance with NFS strategic plan. The Supervisor is committed to patient safety through continued quality assurance and improvements (food safety) and coordination of tasks.

  • Journeyperson Cook Certification is an asset
  • Provide Customer Focused Service Supporting Person Centered Care; Deliver Customer Focused Quality Service
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and positive change management orientation – Approaches problems as opportunities for system process improvement.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, written and oral
  • Knowledge of and experience in customer focused food service operations; room service model preferred
  • Ability to work outside a set schedule/beyond normal working hours as required
  • Travel to other sites or throughout the province is required. Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Takes action to address challenges
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities/staff management/coaching in a unionized environment; Hire, Develop & Retain Solid Performers
  • Demonstrates a Commitment to Customers and Service
  • Completion of an Advanced Food Safety Certification and HACCP Training
  • Experience preferred in a health care setting and unionized environment
  • Experience in food service or clinical nutrition management or leadership and operations required, minimum of two (2) years' preferred (recent relevant experience within the last 5 years)
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated judgement, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated accountability (fiscal, quality improvement, food safety, effective use of food resources, policy implementation/create supportive environments for healthy eating, marketing)
  • Commitment to creating a Culture of Nutrition where Food is Valued for its Role in Health & Recovery
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practice and organization health
  • Completion of a Nutrition post-secondary degree (preferred) or completion of a recognized course in Food and Nutrition Management required
  • People focused; demonstrated ability to build internal and external collaborative relationships; Understanding and Responding to Stakeholder Needs & Values Relationship with our Stakeholders.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent Full-time, 100% FTE; 75 Hours biweekly
  • Shifts include days and evenings, weekends and Holidays
Compensation and Incentives
$27.62 - $34.53 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent Long Assignments Only)
