As a key contributor to CMH’s ongoing focus on quality patient care, this role concentrates on transportation of patients and various supplies throughout the hospital. The successful incumbent will manage patient transfers and must demonstrate excellent communication and patient care skills as they work directly with clients. Responsibilities also include the movement of wheeled goods, transport of stat specimens and linen supplies. The successful candidate must have a strong ability to prioritize, multitask and have a proven track record delivering quality results. This position is to work all shifts, days, nights and evenings including weekends and holidays. The physical requirements of job include constant walking, halls and corridors, stairs, ramps, uneven surfaces, tight spaces, reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing and lifting of moderate to heavy weights. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Skills and Qualifications


  • Previous experience in an environmental services program; specifically recent experience as a patient transportation position required
  • Proven track record meeting schedules and deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to frequently lift, walk, push, pull and stand is required
  • CPR Certification is preferred
  • Successful completion of secondary school required
  • 2 years of current experience as a Porter required
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and procedures required
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Meditech system modules is required
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
