Job Summary:

Toyota Canada Inc. currently has an exciting opportunity for a Solutions Architect. This is a full-time role and will report to the Manager, Enterprise Business Solutions – Connected Technology. The selected candidate will, in partnership with other Architects, define and maintain TCI’s solution architecture blueprint focused on solution development. This role will lead initiatives aligned with our Connected Technologies platforms leveraging existing and emerging technologies. This role will lead the development and design initiatives to introduce new tools and new technology to TCI’s application landscape. For reference for the role, our Connected Technologies platforms are leveraging our Telematics data driven solutions that are installed in our vehicles.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Leadership

• Lead the creation and evolution of the application architecture function, selection and adoption of frameworks and methodologies, and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide solution design decisions
• Collaborate with local and regional Information Services teams to deliver enterprise solutions that are scalable, adaptable and in synchronization with evolving business needs
• Act as liaison with technology partners and vendors on Application Architecture issues, recommend and provide input to technology strategy, architecture, standards and patterns

Software Lifecycle and Process Improvements

• Guide application design and provide technical leadership to ensure alignment to business objectives and application lifecycle
• Ensure projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from architecture stablished guidelines

Technical Excellence

• In partnership with regional associates, lead the design, development, deployment and sustainment of our Connected Technologies solutions across the enterprise.
• Foster dissemination and maturity of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), and DevOps best practices
• Lead the design, implementation and customization of our Connected Technology Solutions.
• Review existing and emerging technologies and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise’s strategy and architecture; develop strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and business functions
• Analyze current business and I.S. solutions & environments to detect deficiencies, recommend improvements and kaizen (continuous improvement) I.S. processes
• In partnership with Enterprise Architecture, contribute to the definition of enterprise automation strategies and roadmaps
• Ensure technical integrity and consistency of the solution on every stage of its lifecycle

Best Practices, Collaboration and Sharing

• Provide education, coaching, and guidelines to I.S. practice on the use of enterprise architecture tools, technology, and standards
• Champion the proper use of tools, processes and standards by conducting education, application review and design sessions to reinforce skills and knowledge baseline
• Compile business needs, process information and technical requirements to produce an optimal, high level, analysis and conceptual design for projects and new solutions
• Influence and communicate effectively with non-technical audiences
• Work with third party vendors to develop and/or integrate their applications into TCI’s solutions; ensure that applications are in accordance with company product standards and guidelines
• Steer and guide the creation and maintenance of the software design (application architecture) strategy and direction
• Provide guidance and expertise on system options, risk, impact and costs vs. benefits analysis.

What You’ll Bring:

• 3+ years of technical expertise in system integration, middleware, API, ITIL, SaaS, COTS
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and presentation skills
• University Degree in computer science or related discipline.
• Strong (5+ years) of technical hands-on expertise with Connected Technology (Telematics) solution implementations configuration and architectural design.
• Broad understanding of I.S. practices and technologies, including PMLC, SDLC, infrastructure and application design, development tools, support, project and process management
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, good judgment and effective decision-making; exhibit strong process improvement orientation, and have the experience to lead discussions and achieve positive results amongst inter-disciplinary groups
• Must have 5+ years I.S. experience in application design and architecture, including solid hands-on experience in conceptualization, modelling and design.
• Experience in environments running multiple platforms is considered an asset
• Experience with any of the following is considered a strong asset: IBM Liberty (WAS), API Connect (APIC), IBM Integration Bus (IIB) Java, Java Script, Azure DevOps, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT)
