Purpose of the Job
The DCS Tester is responsible for the preparation and execution of approved test procedures on the Data Communication System (DCS) subsystem in accordance with company policies (including EHS, railway safety, local regulation, and professional standard). Test execution must be conducted in accordance to subsystem specifications documents and project strategy while conforming with company policies (including EHS, railway safety, local regulation, customer, and professional standards). The DCS Tester assists with the preparation and execution of the various T&C Test Procedures in support of this Toronto Railway Signalling Project. The Railway Signalling is a Brownfield environment where the various testing activities may take place during the day or during non-revenue hours (Nights and Weekends) as deemed necessary to achieve project milestones. For the role, it is mandatory to succesfully complete the required Safety Training for contractors provided by the end customer.
Responsibilities

• May participate/support activities associated with the V&V test on platform / in factory as required by the project.
• Executes all work in conformance with Alstom Transport policies, standards, applicable regulations, and professional standards (including EHS)
• Prepares, plans, and executes test cases and scenarios in support of the Railway Signalling Project under the direction of the T&C Manager
• Alerts the hierarchical superiors by any risk identified during the testing activities (Sub-System Leader, PrCOM, PM, RC TCM, …) if any EHS risk is identified.
• Develops/Reviews T&C procedures for the DCS subsystem against contractual requirements.
• For the role, it is mandatory to succesfully complete the required Safety Training for contractors provided by the end customer
• Adheres to Testing schedules and Testing plans as agreed with internal and external customers
• Uses and adheres to the use of PPE as defined by the Project EHS plan, Alstom rules, and customer Safety requirements.
• Uses the correct tools and equipment to perform the test activities. Ensures the equipment and tools in their care are calibrated and easily tracked.
• Performs responsibilities with minimal direction/supervision from the T&C Manager and/or Subsystem Leader.
• Performs activities with quality, customer expectations and efficiency in mind such as reporting on Test Results, record keeping of results, configuration control, etc.
• Able to interface directly with customers and represent/protect the company’s interest.
• May interact with Engineering and V&V Sub-System leaders for optimizing site test and investigation of testing issues.
• Performs all specific testing activities according to the approved testing procedures / documentation and project driven priorities.

Experience

• Sound judgement; strong analytical, investigative, problem solving and hands on troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of rail signaling (moving block / fixed block/CBTC) and Data Communication elements an asset
• Knowledge of current signalling and train control engineering principles and practices considered a strong asset.
• Conceptual understanding of various railway testing scenarios and hands on field testing considered a strong asset.
• Experience with facing technical problems and evaluate/propose solutions.
• Applies expertise to troubleshoot technical issues & supports investigation of issues with other subsystems and peers.
• Excellent Technical Writing skills for preparation of Test Reports and communicating Test Results at Technical and Managerial Team levels.
• Strong familiarity with the use of Networking and Data Communication Testing Tools (Optical Power Meters, Spectrum Analyzer, LAN Tester, etc.)
• Minimum 2-years’ experience preferably in rail signaling industry and with RF Testing and/or IT networks and computer configurations
• Excellent Technical Writing skills for preparation of Test Reports and communicating Test Results at Technical and Managerial Team levels
• Good understanding of Test Management and Configuration Control
• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
• Demonstrated experience working as part of a multi-disciplined team
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
• Performs activities with quality, customer expectations and efficiency in mind such as Test Results reporting, record keeping of results, configuration control, etc.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology (electrical/computer/railway) or equivalent combined experience and education.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record considered an asset.
