This position’s primary purpose is to provide support to ensure the accuracy and timely operational and product related settlement services, and to provide support to the effective operation and maintenance of the Oracle GL system. Additionally, this position manages relationships and works collaboratively with various internal departments to ensure accurate and timely settlement services, as well as supports the delivery of financial information and reports to internal users such as the Senior and Executive Leadership teams, Audit and Conduct Review Committee, Board of Directors and various external regulators.
The Work
  • Participating in operational projects focusing on automation, efficiency and process improvement.
  • Providing second level verification for transaction processing and reporting pertaining to operational and product related settlement services.
  • Providing feedback and recommendations to management and clients on efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Providing analytical and technical expertise in the area of payments.
  • Providing ongoing monitoring of payments processes and controls, and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Performing account analysis on the corporate credit card sub-ledger and following up with cardholders on outstanding balances
  • Assisting with the testing of upgrades, interfaces and project related tasks.
  • Continuous process improvements and adapting to evolving client requirements and operational functions.
  • Demonstrating leadership and providing mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Mentoring and assisting less experienced staff.
  • Responding to queries and helping to resolve uncleared outages in cash account by investigating and analyzing data.
  • Contribute to the Controller’s Office initiatives, efficiencies or department projects by:
  • Delivering to business unit service standards.
  • Provide support to the effective operation and maintenance of the Oracle GL system by:
  • Compiling volume statistics.
  • Provide accurate, timely and relevant reporting, both internal and external by:
  • Assisting with the administration of the system including performing month end procedures.
  • Assisting with the administration for the corporate credit cards which includes setting up/cancelling corporate credit cards, dealing with cardholder inquiries
  • Support the accuracy of financial results by:
  • Building, furthering and recognizing business relationships within the department, the division and the company in order to obtain information efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensuring the integrity of the information that is in the system through daily checks and follow up on missing interface files.
  • Providing support and resolving issues for users of the system.
  • Assisting with the development and ongoing maintenance of reports from the system.
Let's Talk About You!
  • Completion of a diploma or degree in accounting. Preference is given to those who are working towards a professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA or CA).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Comprehensive knowledge of settlement applications and system cutoff times such as Chequepoint, Chess, AccPac, CUPS wire system, CIBC CMO, MTS wire system, Central 1 Remote Deposit Capture, SaskCentral Centralized Billing System, CAFT, Member Direct Cash Concentration, Autosweeps, Citibank wires
  • Proven ability to think logically and problem solve
  • Working knowledge of accounting policies and regulatory environments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial accounting and reporting principles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general ledger applications such as Oracle
  • Ability to perform research and analysis
  • Two years progressive experience with financial reporting principles, policies and practices. Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the credit union system and/or financial services sector would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial institution routing information and Concentra standing settlement instructions

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 351 King Street East, Toronto, ON.
