Job Description

On behalf of our valued client, a Calgarian general contractor, MatchBox Consulting Group is searching for a Senior Superintendent with experience in various commercial and institutional construction projects.


Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of construction management and construction principles and practices
  • Experience in the GC industry
  • Thorough understanding and accountability of the site financial management of projects
  • Thorough understanding of all Project Delivery Methods
  • Journeyperson trade certification
  • Ability to navigate MS Office
  • Ability to interpret legislation, laws and regulations
  • Completion of secondary school
  • Ability to seamlessly and without guidance successfully deliver multiple complex projects
  • 10+ years of progressive experience as a Site Superintendent
  • Communication and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form


Role and Responsibilities:


Safety and Quality:

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring that Quality standards are met throughout the project
  • Responsible for compliance with contract documents in regard to inspections and testing
  • Responsible for implementation of safety program, hazard assessments, inspections, incident and accident investigations etc. and ensuring compliance

Communication:

  • Follow up weekly on constraints assigned to Superintendent that are in the Constraints Log
  • Provide to Project Manager/Project Coordinator summary of work for monthly project updates, which would consist of: Schedule update, Deliverables (shop drawing control), Photos, Budget update, Concerns, Constraints
  • Developing and following up on Site initiated RFIs
  • Liaison between all key industry partners involved in the project (Client, Consultants, Trade Partners) and responsible for communication throughout the project
  • Assist Project Managers with site-changes and change orders by providing detailed costing input
  • Schedule and participate (and act as rotating chair as applicable) in monthly “Project Success Self Evaluation” meetings

Construction Site Management:

  • Review, understand and proactively manage the scopes of work within the contract documents
  • Responsible for completion and distribution of Daily Job Logs
  • Responsible for Preventative Maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Responsible for coordinating mobilization (including set-up of trailer with required technology etc) and demobilization of construction site
  • Responsible for monitoring and steering overall project schedule on a day-to-day basis. Alert PDT to potential issues that may arise utilizing Last Planner System for schedule management
  • Responsible for monitoring, updating, and review overall project resources, labour, equipment, and materials
  • Responsible for construction site management from start to finish
  • Liaising with building authorities and regulators
  • Accountable for ensuring productivity of crews completing self-performed work
  • Responsible for verification of invoices, labour quantities, packing slips of incidental site POs
  • Responsible for Project Close-Out including final inspections, as-built drawings (gathering and capturing any changes in as-builts), deficiencies, warranty work and site demobilization in conjunction with the Project Manager
  • Responsible for accuracy and submittal of weekly timesheets
  • Participate in the selection, performance management, and termination of field site personnel

Meetings:

  • Assist Project Manager with coordinating commissioning meeting and developing a commissioning plan combined with Schedule (Testing, Equipment start-ups, Training, Turnover)
  • Validate and approval of Meeting Minutes
  • Responsible to attend client meetings
  • Responsible for facilitating weekly Last Planner meetings

Procurement:

  • Participation in the Trade Award and Project Success process
  • Responsible for following the Procurement Model for Project Delivery for site purchased materials and services
  • Assist Pre-Construction when required with schedule development for future work

Financial:

  • Participate in monthly site WIP Meetings
  • Review and provide feedback to Project Manager on Trade Partners Monthly Progress Bills
  • Initiate documentation for cost recovery of back charge/s after advising Trades

Design:

  • Review owner supplied equipment for compatibility with design and construction
  • Review shop drawings for accuracy coordination and constructability
  • Participate in Design Meetings and provide constructive feedback and recommendations with regards to the constructability, flow of work and impact on the schedule
  • Review preliminary design drawings and ensure that they accurately capture the client’s needs and wants discussed during the Design Meetings

Turnover:

  • Conduct client review of work
  • Conduct internal walk-through in preparation for client turnover
  • Oversee completion of deficiency related work as necessary
  • Coordination and completion of any and all job deficiencies
  • Manage completion of warranty work as necessary

Mentorship:

  • Encourage a passion for work and a sense of team
  • Conduct PDCAs with direct reports
  • Motivate members of the PDT to develop and exhibit a continuous improvement mindset and encourage junior roles to make recommendations
  • Provide support and guidance to junior roles within the PDT
  • Recommend opportunities so that members of the PDT know of and value the expertise and skills within the team
  • Foster an environment where learning is encouraged
  • Recommend opportunities for members of the PDT to work across programs to optimize the use of resources and achieve results
