Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Reporting to the PRESTO Strategy Manager, this position supports the Manager, as well as the Senior Manager, Strategic Planning and Engagement across all aspects of the Strategy team mandate – Strategy Development & Business Planning, Advisory & Special Projects, and Market Intelligence. This position will support the development of Payments divisional strategy and strategic planning cycle, playing a key role in developing long-term strategy and annual plans and aiding in the preparation of divisional business performance reporting as well as Board and Committee materials. In addition, the position will track fare payments industry/market trends to identify key insights and work with cross functional teams to investigate new business opportunities and strategic business problems, conducting analysis and developing insights and recommendations.
What will I be doing?
• Leading the development and ongoing maintenance of the Payments (PRESTO) Division’s strategic roadmap, ensuring alignment to governance and project and program developments as well as the strategic plan
• Contribute to the implementation of the Payments (PRESTO) 2025 divisional plan, including tracking against the division’s mission, vision, outcomes and objectives/KPIs
• Develops workshop plans and materials to lead and facilitate select workstreams in the development of strategic plans to support the implementation of a refreshed business strategy
• Develops high-quality content and deliverables for presentations and reports to be shared at multiple levels of the business and/or externally, including Payments Leadership Team, Senior Management Team, and Payments (PRESTO) Committee
• Investigates new business opportunities and acts as an internal consultant to the business on key strategic initiatives, providing strategic thinking, structure, analysis and recommendations and developing business cases
• Conducts external scans of global peers comparable to the PRESTO system, industry trends and key topics, identifying relevant insights and opportunities; works with team members to regularly monitor and distribute market intelligence
• Responsible for the development and reporting of divisional KPIs to ensure the Payments (PRESTO) Division tracks and controls against its business objectives
• Monitors and researches customer and client trends and understands key business drivers for each to help inform the Payments (PRESTO) Division business direction
• Develops data-driven insights and identifies opportunities by assessing and analyzing external market and internal data
• Promotes innovation and encourages the adoption of best practices based on industry and business knowledge, while ensuring stability to operational integrity
• Develops financial models and reports to inform Senior Management and Stakeholders
• Leads third-party consultants in the development of deliverables on an as-needed basis
What skills & qualifications do I need?
• Completion of a degree in Business Administration or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent; MBA is an asset
• Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience, including at least three (3) years in corporate/internal strategy and/or consulting; preferably in one of the following fields: payments, transit, consumer loyalty or financial technology
• Ability to communicate abstract ideas clearly and independently manage complex project objectives
• Knowledge of strategy development methodologies, frameworks and best practices
• Project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls, to coordinate cross functional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects (e.g. development, project progress, related staff and project resources) and monitor project activities for adherence to timelines, budgets, and project performance objectives
• Analytical skills to analyze data, corporate business performance and recommend improvements
• MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) with advanced Excel skills (e.g. vlookup, if/then statements, pivot tables, and troubleshooting) to identify and resolve formula issues
• Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to interact with groups across the organization
