The Opportunity


The Senior Manager will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to source new products that drive the lowest total cost of ownership, manage inventory efficiently and motivate suppliers to provide excellent cost, quality and service to Canopy. The successful candidate will have proven expertise in building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers and internal functional stakeholders. A key feature of this position is matrix-management of cross-functional teams to execute the strategic objectives across the lifecycle of the products produced.


The ideal candidate has a passion for Procurement and experience leading category strategy development and execution, and is a strategic thinker, change agent, and relationship builder. This role will have exposure across the organization including senior levels, so executive presence and strong communication and presentation skills are also critically important. Canopy Growth is looking for an experienced, highly motivated individual to fill the Senior Manager position within the Procurement team. As a Senior Manager, you will be responsible for the creation and execution of strategic Procurement plans.


This individual will manage a group of employees and reflects the need for a strategic thinker who is able to negotiate difficult conversations and drive performance.


We need someone who is able to work collaboratively in a rapidly growing and ever-changing industry and who is comfortable working against tight and changing deadlines. In many cases, since the industry is still emerging, our supply base is learning with us, adding another dimension of complexity to this role.


Responsibilities


  • Develop strong relationships with internal functional leaders, leveraging those relationships for development and alignment of the Procurement department strategy.
  • Understand procurement metrics, how to analyze them and act when needed. Transform raw data, such as pricing or inventory information, into an easily understood analysis that identifies trends and insights that can be actioned against.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape to keep abreast of emerging trends, supply/demand, and industry changes and their overall impact to current and anticipated future spend.
  • Thoroughly understand and utilize the Canopy Growth Corporation procurement process, including RFx’s and competitive bids.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Source, negotiate and execute contractual agreements. Attain terms and conditions which are favorable to Canopy Growth and seek to reduce the company's risk exposure.
  • Participate in M&A activities as required.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Clearly communicate procurement requirements, risks and deliverables to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Develop a strategic plan to maximize value for the assigned categories based on an understanding of business needs, the supply market, benchmarking, price availability, etc.
  • Ability to interface at all levels of the organization and with suppliers to solve problems when facing evolving demands.
  • Identify and lead cost reduction projects to meet organizational goals.
  • Manage a team and build it into a high-functioning and engaged team where team members are accountable as both functional as well as team representatives.
  • Manage, research, assess and expand on our global supply base. Lead global sourcing initiatives, including input from New Product Development, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance and Operations. Continuously scope the marketplace to find new and increasingly competitive and optimal suppliers.
  • Strong leadership presence and negotiation/contract management experience.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to establish efficient stream-lined work processes that meet all stakeholders’ requirements. Have a strong understanding of problem solving and process improvement techniques to drive this work.
  • Ensure projects meet time and budget constraints, deliver business value, and produce high-quality results.
  • Lead cross functional teams to establish procurement category strategies to ensure lowest total cost of ownership.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain on flow of inventory and guarantee optimum stock levels.
  • Drive approvals for secondary suppliers and alternative materials or services.
  • Act as a coach and mentor within the team. Support Procurement Buyers with critical or challenging suppliers to improve customer service levels, create purchasing strategies, contract negotiation and generation.


Experience


  • Minimum 7 years of strategic Procurement sourcing experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry a plus.
  • Strong team player; mentoring and coaching experience.
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Experience eSourcing applications a plus
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience creating and implementing new processes.
  • Experience in negotiating, drafting and executing vendor agreements/contracts.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP and SAGE) preferred and a plus.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Initiative to investigate problems, develop solutions and obtain results.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Four-year Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or Science. MBA a plus.
