Summary
Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst, Industrial Assets. The organization is a single-family office investment enterprise. This role will focus specifically on the real estate portfolio which is comprised of multi tenanted income producing properties, development projects, and raw land.
The Senior Financial Analyst, Industrial Assets, will be involved in managing the annual budget process, quarterly reporting, evolving current reporting and implementing new processes to facilitate the build-out of key infrastructure elements for our expanding real estate portfolio.
Key Accountabilities
- Assists in mentoring the development of other team members through informal discussions.
- Ensures an understanding of client requirements, providing recommendations, offering/proposing solutions, as well as creating functional documentation to ensure high end client satisfaction.
- Identifies and investigates quarterly variances to budget and forecast, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and potential risks.
- Defines, measures, analyzes, and improves current processes with impacts to financial results.
- Participates in cross-functional initiatives and ad hoc projects to provide financial analysis for decision support.
- Coordinates the year-end financial audits with the external auditors, as well as manage the audit issues resolution process.
- Assists the Financial Controller with providing systems administration and process training as required.
- Monitors internal controls and implements solutions to ensure financial accuracy and adherence to policies, processes, and procedures.
- Researches and champions the interpretation and application of new accounting standards, including drafting of technical accounting assessments/policies/position papers/memos for internal and auditor use.
- Leads the analysis of current situation and future requirements of the budgeting process and reporting requirements of financial information to meet the needs of executives, and other stakeholders.
- Identifies, develops, and implements appropriate/best practices and standardized reporting tools, such as templates or analysis tools for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Constantly seeks opportunities to improve processes and streamlines operations by investigating and applying innovative and appropriate solutions for information delivery and reporting submission.
- Develops a strong understanding of the company’s income producing property portfolio from an accounting and operational perspective and can communicate key issues with management.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Self-motivated, results-driven professional with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound financial modelling/analysis skills in Excel, analytical and problem-solving skills with solid understanding of accounting principles.
- Strong financial background, and expert knowledge of Excel is required.
- Experience with commercial property operations or property development an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate key themes and messages both with internal and external stakeholders.
- Qualified or enrolled CPA designation plus a minimum of 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in Finance and Accounting.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task and accurately work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
