Opportunity:
The Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis, Real Estate will report to the Manager of Finance, Real Estate. The individual will be supporting the financial planning & analysis and reporting for Fengate’s segregated funds, predominantly on Canadian residential and resort operations and US Hotel operations. This role will have the opportunity to interact closely with the Finance, FP&A, Developments, Investments, and 3rd Party consultant teams.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter and genuinely curious; that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment; has the ability to stay organized and efficiently prioritize and work under timelines. The individual is process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work; and eager to learn all aspects of a career in accounting and reporting.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with banks to secure financing and perform other treasury functions
- Prepare monthly accounting entries and bank reconciliations for segregated funds
- Prepare USD/CAD currency exposure report on a monthly basis
- Preparation of quarterly fund reports for internal management and investors
- Calculation of quarterly and annual fund returns using IRR and weighted capital
- Assist with year-end valuation process by co-ordinating with external appraiser and critically assessing assumption used in appraisal
- Support investments team to maintain models to project performance metrics such as cash flow, operating returns, IRR, ROIC, MOIC, NPV, etc.
- Assist with year-end audit process through the preparation of audit working papers
- Work closely with accounting teams of joint ventures to co-ordinate and compile support for investment models, quarterly reporting, cash management, development draw requests, debt covenants and other ad-hoc requests
- Preparation and review of quarterly financial statements for internal management and investors
- Identify and implement continuous process improvements across different areas of scope
Preferred Qualifications and Skill set:
- CPA designation, with 3+ years of relevant experience in the industry
- Genuinely curious with a desire to understand key metrics and drivers
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant technical discipline
- Strong customer focus with excellent relationship building and a collaborative working style
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Experience with working in the real estate or asset management space is preferred
- Strong Excel modelling skills, ability to construct professional PowerPoint presentations
- Solid understanding of statement of earnings, balance sheet, cash flows, IRR, ROIC, etc.
- Ability to handle competing deliverables, with accurate/timely delivery under tight timelines
Location & Travel:
The position will be based out of the Oakville office. Fengate offers a Work-Flex policy where employees are allowed to work remotely up to 3 days per week.
