Experience/ Education:

  • Previous experience with quantity takeoff and estimating experience using HeavyBid, Chief Estimator and Planswift considered an asset
  • Post -secondary diploma or degree in related discipline or 2 years direct experience
  • Ability to work with deadlines and in a team environment
  • Proven ability to create and maintain effective relationships with clients, vendors subcontractors, architects, designers, field superintendents and staff
  • Proven ability to effectively manage, lead and mentor staff
  • Good knowledge of contracts, codes, industry practices, and key trade contractors
  • Ability to lead by example and set the standard of professionalism
  • 8-10 years’ experience in heavy civil considered an asset
  • Construction Estimating 3 years (preferred)
  • Experience in P3 procurement processes is an asset
  • Good knowledge of local trades and subcontractors
  • Ideally has experience in civil, formwork concrete and bridge estimating
  • No specific requirements depending on experience
  • Good initiative, attention to detail
  • Estimating 3 years (preferred)
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Bachelors’ degree in Civil Engineering an asset, but not required
  • Proficient with MS Excel and MS Word


Salary:

  • $100,000 – $140,000 CA

Job Summary:

The successful candidate must be very proficient in reading and understanding architectural, and civil drawings, and experienced in all aspects of the tender process for commercial construction. Excellent communication and organizational skills are a must as the candidate will be expected to communicate with client Project Managers, salesperson to collect pricing and build budgets, and other estimators / team members to properly assemble in-depth pricing proposals. The candidate should also be computer literate and be fluent in basic Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.

This position is full-time and includes benefits (listed above). Wage is negotiable based on experience. There is no contract for this position, but we are generally looking for people to grow with our team and become an intricate part of our company going forward. Work location is at our office in Langley.


Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift, 40-hour work week
  • General office hours are 8-4pm,
  • Some additional work when required
  • Monday to Friday


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work breakdown structures
  • Maintain large working files as supporting documentation for estimating figures including current, accurate information on process for vendors, through exclusive contact, marketing material, pre-existing price list, etc.
  • Review requests for Proposals (RFP), addenda and all other contractual documents
  • Lead the Estimating team on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company, as well as the construction industry
  • Mentor, coach and supervise the Estimating Team and assist the Project Management teams as required
  • Prepare and participate in meetings with clients, joint venture partners and consultants
  • Reflect on project learnings and experience to improve and promote lessons learned to the other office staff
  • Lead and participate in the preliminary and final cost estimates
  • Analyze, identify and evaluate project opportunities, risks and mitigation strategies
  • Prepare subcontractor bid packages
  • Perform all other related tasks that will help complete the project
  • Identify local subcontractors and suppliers, solicit quotes and prepare comparison sheets
  • Perform all stages of an estimate, including estimate organization, take-off, pricing review and closeout
