Position Overview:
Our client is a private equity firm that focuses on real estate development investments. Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Director of Finance will have ownership of the Corporate Accounting and collaborate with all other external and internal Finance areas and clients. This is an ideal role for a CPA that enjoys working in an entrepreneurial environment. The organization has a strong growth mandate, as such, this individual will have a hand in helping to scale up the Finance team, implement new processes & best practices, be an operational partner to the business and take on ad-hoc mandates. The successful candidate must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the team.
- Prepare annual budget and management reporting to track progress throughout the year.
- Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess cash balances.
- Coordinate and record investments made in Funds, securities, overnight funds, etc.
- Respond to inquiries from the outsourced tax team to support tax requirements.
- Create the monthly forecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions.
- Supervise a large accounting team to ensure proper journal entries, preparation of month-end close working papers, billing of asset management fees, and accounts payable payments processed.
- Lead the accounting team to ensure the accurate and timely production of monthly and annual financial statements, including the analytical review of the business operations.
- Creation/prepare KPIs to support the marketing department and forecast to ensure proper NAV calculations.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, including automation, accounting system assessment, and management reporting.
- Assistance with ad-hoc projects and new initiatives, as required. For example, additional reporting for Marketing, Sales, and various management requirements.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation is required with at least 8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Highly organized and productive with a strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner.
- Ability to lead, coach, influence, and motivate team members.
- Experience in the real estate industry is an asset.
- Task and goal-oriented and capable of functioning in an entrepreneurial and corporate setting.
- Able to analyze, organize, summarize, and articulate complex financial information.
- Strong GAAP and IFRS financial reporting technical skills.
Please note that at present, legal eligibility to work in Canada is a prerequisite for this role.
